Friday Night Live |  October's Friday Night Live will present the Danny Weiss/Don Seybold Jazz and Poetry Project. This intriguing program offers improvisation and spontaneous exchange between the jazz musicians and the poet. The free performance will be from 7-8 p.m. Oct. 28 in the museum galleries.

The Torch Is Coming | Stop by the Art Museum at 9 a.m. Oct. 12 to cheer on the Indiana Bicentennial Torch, which will head down Ninth Street as it passes through Tippecanoe County that day. 

Art for Sale The Art Museum will sell some original art to the public. The works for sale are original pieces that have been gifted to the museum over the past decade but were not included in the permanent collection. The sale will begin with an opening from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Shook Gallery and run through Feb. 12. Works for sale will be from a  variety of mediums, including painting, etching and watercolor. Proceeds will benefit the museum' s permanent collection.
 
Gallery Talk Nicole Poletika, research and digital content editor at the Indiana Historical Bureau, will discuss the original Indiana state flag in a gallery talk at noon Tuesday, Oct. 4. The flag, currently on exhibit at the museum, is permanently housed at the Historical Bureau.  Gallery talks are free and open to the public thanks to support from State Sen. Ron Alting.

John William Vawter | Scene of an Alley



A Bicentennial Legacy, Artsmart: Indiana | Through Nov. 17 | This exhibit captures 200 years of Indiana art. It includes rare works from private and public collections that are included in ArtSmart: Indiana, which tells Indiana's history through its artists.

First Indiana Flag | Through Nov. 13 | In conjunction with the state's 200th birthday, the Indiana Historical Bureau has agreed to lend the first state flag to the museum in recognition of it being part of ArtSmart: Indiana for 30 years.

Ruth Howell | Crop Circles

Indiana Artists: Bicentennial Members Exhibit | Through Nov. 27 | Indiana Artists is a juried artist organization. The exhibit is held every fall at locations that rotate each year. It was last held at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette in 2010.

Life Drawing with James Werner, 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 5-26.

Drawing Basics with Elizabeth Lincourt, 7-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 6-Nov. 10.

Transparent Watercolor on Yupo Paper
with Becky Brody, 12:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

Pouring Color with Fluid Acrylics Workshop with Ladonna Vohar, 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23. For youths and adults ages 16 and up.

Kids' Art with Elizabeth Lincourt, fourth Saturday of every month. Participants study an artist or art movement and then do an art project inspired by that artist or movement. October is Lichtenstein, 1-3 p.m. Oct. 22. 

Ongoing Classes that can be joined at anytime include Live Model Open Studio,  Watercolors with Lorie Amick, Pastels with Ron Burgess, Drop-In Beginning Oil with Anne Parks, Yoga at the Museum with Debra Steinhauer.

2nd Century Club members, who contribute $1,000 or more annually to the Art Museum, are invited to an annual private behind-the-scenes art tour to another location; a club members-only annual dinner; private champagne exhibition previews and meetings with the artists; priority invitations to Art Museum special events and tours.

Birthday Bash | On Nov. 5, 2nd Century Club members will be guests for dinner at the museum before the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra's bicentennial celebration, "200 Candles: A Hoosier Birthday Bash." ArtSmart: Indiana, a statewide effort founded by the museum, is providing Indiana art to be displayed in conjunction with the music.
 
Discount | Art Museum members always get a 10% discount on studio art classes and purchases from the Museum Shop and the Columbian Park Zoo Gift Shop.
 
More Discounts | The Art Museum has joined the Reciprocal Organization of Associated Museums (ROAM) which provides members at the Friend level and above with free admission and a 10 percent shopping discount at more than 200 museums, including the Indianapolis Museum of Art. This is in addition to the museum's ongoing membership in the North American Reciprocal Museums (NARM) organization with more than 800 participating museums.
