Feeding the 5000 - free lunch this Friday!
On Friday, October 7, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., a coalition of organizations will be hosting Feeding the 5,000, a free, delicious, community meal for thousands of people, sourced entirely from locally gleaned, fresh food that would have otherwise been wasted. This event is designed to increase awareness about address solutions to the tragic amount of food being wasted in our community. In addition to the free meal, the event will demonstrate solutions, and feature high-profile speakers and chefs on the main stage to teach and inspire us to take action. This event is hosted by the Natural Resources Council of Maine, Healthy Acadia, Cumberland County Food Security Council, Feedback, and The Rockefeller Foundation with leadership from the Portland Food-Co-op; Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, The Locker Project, Maine Farmland Trust, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Good Shepherd Food Bank, The City of Portland, and many more!
9th Annual Indie Biz Awards This Week!
The 2016 Indie Biz Awards take place this Thursday, October 6th, from 6-9 pm at Portland House of Music & Events. Join us for this extraordinary celebration of local businesses and what makes Portland unique. There will be live music by Saved & Sound, live & silent auctions and of course, lots of food and drink from Portland's best. Join us as we celebrate all of the nominees, including our friends at Portland Food Co-op, Birth Roots, Green Clean Maine, ReVision Energy, Vinland, Portland Trails, the Holy Donut, and WMPG.

The Indie Biz Awards recognize leaders among Portland's vibrant independent businesses and community organizations, showcasing the impact that independently owned businesses have on Greater Portland and the state of Maine. The event is FREE, and we hope to see you there!
