Medical Students Participate in
Aging Sensitivity Training
As part of the longitudinal Geriatrics Curriculum Thread, co-directed by Drs. Mandi Sehgal and Joseph Ouslander, first-year medical students, recently participated in Aging Sensitivity Training to understand and develop empathy for those older adults who live with different abilities as a result of the aging process.
"The session reminded me to have patience with my patients and in my community ... Our society values youth, strength, and efficiency. We often become easily frustrated with anyone or anything that requires us to slow down. This activity not only required us to consider some of the struggles that we may experience with age, but it enabled us to experience some of them ourselves," said student Erin Wainwright.

Increased Enrollment in College's Graduate Biomedical Programs
Congratulations to our Biomedical programs for an incredible 31% growth in enrollment from last year's fall semester thanks to substantial recruiting efforts. The team, headed by Dr. Marc Kantorow, is continuing their recruitment efforts by attending two events in October: one at Florida International University and one at Broward College.

Florida Chapter of American College
of Physicians Meeting a Success
The American College of Physicians FL Chapter Annual Scientific Meeting was a wonderful success. There was outstanding representation from FAU faculty who lectured. The students and residents did an excellent job with their poster presentations and Yotam Papo won 3rd place in the Resident Research Poster Competition.

Students, Residents Present Research at Future of Medicine Summit
M
edical students and internal medicine residents were successful at submitting
research projects and case studies for to the Palm Beach County Medical Society
for poster competition.
Seventeen of the posters presented at the Future of Medicine Summit on Sept. 15 were from internal medicine residents with an
additional 14 presented by medical students, for a total of 28 out of 60 selected. Two of the resident's won awards.

College of Medicine Teams up
with Donna Klein Jewish Academy
The
College of Medicine has entered into an agreement with the Donna Klein Jewish Academy in Boca Raton to permit its high school students who are interested in the fields of medicine and science to participate in educational tours and visits to the University campus. Read more here.

CTRU Members Participate
in Walk to End Alzheimer's
The CTRU team participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease at Mizner Park on Sept. 25 sponsored by the South Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. The Walk raises money to support Alzhiemer's disease research.

College of Medicine Affiliate Professor Participates in Town Hall Forum
The FDA approved the first two PCSK9 inhibitors for use in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerotic CVD who require additional LDL lowering over a year ago, but cost and coverage remain barriers to access for patients and health care providers. A town hall forum held during the American Society for Preventive Cardiology's Congress on Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Prevention brought together experts including
Seth J. Baum, MD, FASPC, FACC, FACPM, FAHA, FNLA, and patients to raise awareness and discuss barriers and potential solutions for the future. Read more

College of Medicine Researcher Awarded Fellowship
Matthew Robson, post-doctoral researcher in Dr. Randy Blakely's laboratory, has won a two-year fellowship from the Brain and Behavioral Research Foundation.
