Greater Hudson Heritage Network Announces 

winners of the 2016 Awards for Excellence

Greater Hudson Heritage Network's Awards for Excellence program seeks to recognize and commend exceptional efforts among GHHN members. Awards are made to projects that exemplify creativity and professional vision resulting in a contribution to the preservation and interpretation of the historic scene, material culture and diversity of the region. 

The awards will be presented at the GHHN Sensing History: Using the Senses to Access History, Engage Audiences and Inspire our Future Annual Conference on October 28, 2016 at Locust Grove Estate, Poughkeepsie, New York.
 
2016 Awards for Excellence are presented to:
 
The Albany Institute of History & Art
Albany (Albany)
This award is in recognition of the development of a Teacher Resource packet in which each lesson plan is based on an object displayed in the museum exhibition "The Capital Region in 50 Objects". 
 
Bedford Historical Society and 
Benjamin Branch, Project Manager
Bedford (Westchester)
This award is in recognition of the successful completion of the historic preservation of the 1906 Lounsbery Building portico.
 
Bedford Historical Society
Bedford (Westchester)
This award is in recognition of the program "Hunt for History", a multi-faceted historical quest involving Bedford's three hamlets. 
 
Bedford Historical Society, Stacey Albanese, President of the Board of Directors
Bedford (Westchester)
This award is in recognition of an outdoor exhibit "Outside the Box: Bringing History to Life" which was created to celebrate the centennial of The Bedford Historical Society.

Ellenville Public Library & Museum
Town of Wawarsing Historian
Ellenville (Ulster)
This award is in recognition for the publication Images of America, Ellenville co-authored by Ellenville Public Library & Museum and Town of Wawarsing Historian Henry "Bucky" Green.

John T. Mayo
Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame
Goshen (Orange)
This award is one of Individual Achievement to John T. Mayo in recognition of his nineteen years of dedicated service to New York state history.

Historical Society of Rockland County
New City (Rockland)
This award is in recognition of the publication  South of the Mountains, the history quarterly of the Historical Society of Rockland County. 
 
Mary L. Knapp
New York (New York)
This award is in recognition of the publication Miracle on Fourth Street by Mary L. Knapp which chronicles the history of the Merchant's House as a historic house museum. 

Mount Beacon Incline Railway Restoration 
Beacon (Dutchess)
This award is in recognition of the exhibition "Along the Mt. Beacon Incline Railway: Past, Present & Future" which uses large-format photographs, historic maps, digital animation, and diagrams to tell the story of Incline's rich history and potential future restoration. 

New-York Historical Society
New York (New York)
This award is in recognition of "Folk Art: The Collection of Elie and Viola Nadelman" a major traveling exhibition and educational initiative which explores the tale of modernist sculptor Elie Nadelman and his wife Viola Spiess Flannery, pioneering collectors who opened the first folk art museum in the United States.

Rye Historical Society & Hawthorne Country Day School
Rye (Westchester)
This award is in recognition of the Rye Historical Society's educational program for students with disabilities in partnership with the Hawthorne Country Day School.

Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art
New Paltz (Ulster)
This award is in recognition of the publication Jervis McEntee: Painter-Poet of the Hudson River School

This award is in recognition of the exhibit "Jervis McEntee: Painter-Poet of the Hudson River School", a first-ever museum retrospective of Jervis McEntee's 40-year career.

Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct
Dobbs Ferry (Westchester)
This award is in recognition of the successful collaboration to restore the 1857 Old Croton Aqueduct Keeper's House to serve as a walker's waystation, interpretive center, Parks staff office and home to Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct. 

Town of Dover Historical Society
Wassaic (Dutchess)
This award is in recognition of the educational efforts to establish a Junior History Club at the Dover Elementary School. 

Warwick Historical Society 
Warwick (Orange)
This award is in recognition of the Holiday Season exhibit "The Festival of Toys" which shared a facet of the history of Warwick through the display of toys and games from the 1840's to 1930's with a local history.

Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site
Newburgh (Orange)
This award is in recognition of the educational program "Through Different Lenses: Views from Two Centuries" which uses stereoscopic views to interpretation General George Washington's 18th century headquarters.
