If you do not have a child or grandchild in the Youth Ministry, yet receive this weekly email, we would love for you to have an understanding of what is going on with our students. Also, we hope that it might serve as a reminder to pray for our students and the Youth Ministry.

Good Afternoon,

Tonight is the last week in the 3-week series entitled #NothingWill. This series will examine in depth what Romans 8:38 means when nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God.
I want to highly encourage students to bring their friends for this series, especially those that do not know Christ, because I know this series has the potential to impact lives for eternity.

In this week's message, the main focus of the message is that: You  are never alone; the God of the universe knows exactly what is going on in your life.

In Romans 8:31-39 we see where Paul states, among other things, that neither height nor depth can keep us from the love of Christ. This can translate that neither the highs and lows of life can keep us from the love of Christ. Many of us and many of teens today deal with feelings of loneliness, depression, and that there's no one on there side.  We see from this passage and from Psalm 139 that even in the midst of our loneliness, even when we might not "feel" the presence of God, and even when we think no one is on our side, God is there.  Psalm 139, a particular famous Psalm of David, shares that no matter where we turn we cannot escape the presence of God. While this might strike fear in the heart of someone entrenched in sin, this is truth that brings joy, peace, and hope to those that are God's children.  The fact that God knows me intimately, that the presence of the Holy Spirit resides in me, and I am sealed in Christ as follower of Him, is a reminder that nothing can separate me from him. Even in the highs and lows of life God, the author and creator of love, is there with me.

Tonight I want the students to grasp:
  • Even when you feel alone, feel discouraged, or feel like your life has little meaning: God is there.
    • The truth of Scripture trumps feelings! Our feelings and emotions can vary day to day, but the truth of Scripture is timeless and will always stand.
  • God was intimately involved in creating you. You were wonderfully made with a purpose!
  • As a follower of Christ, nothing or no one can stand against you and God.
    • This doesn't mean you can't be harmed, but the fact that even if faced with death our promise is the presence of Christ.
  • As a follower of Christ, the Holy Spirit resides in you, you are in Christ, and Christ is in God; therefore, we cannot escape the presence and the unending love of Christ.

Parents, I encourage you to keep the conversation going after Youth Worship.
  • Get them talking about the thought that even in the midst of our loneliness we know God is there with us. His love can help us walk through those times. Perhaps share with them a time that you felt lonely or depressed and the truth of Scripture allowed you to overcome that time.
  • Ask them what's something that they can APPLY to their lives from this message.
  • Ask them what's something that they can or need to CHANGE in their lives according to this message.
  • Ask them what's something that they can TEACH to someone else from this message.
  • I encourage you spend time praying with your child.

The more you probe and ask questions into your child's spiritual life, the more opportunity you have to help shape who they are in Christ. You are important to your child's spiritual growth!

Next week we will begin a 4-week series entitled
"The Skeletons in God's Closet."
"Is God a sadistic torturer? Coldhearted judge? Genocidal maniac? There are some questions no Christian wants to be asked. Many today believe hell, judgment and holy war are 'skeletons in God's closet,' tough topics that, if looked at closely, would reveal a cruel, vindictive tyrant rather than a good and loving God. And we aren't comfortable with the answers we've been given.

"How can a loving God send people to Hell?"
"Isn't it arrogant to believe Jesus is the only way to God?"
"Why is there so much violence in the Old Testament?"

We'll pull these bones out into the open to exchange popular caricatures for the beauty and power of the real thing. We'll discover these topics were never really skeletons at all...but proclamations of a God who is good 'in his very bones,' not just in what he does, but in who he is. We'll fling wide the closet door and sing loudly, boldly and clearly: God is good and coming to redeem his world."

If your child needs a ride to or from Youth Worship, we have a couple that is willing and able to pickup or drop off students. You can contact me at the office or you can contact Barb Jeannin (361-230-3815) directly.
