Greetings and blessings in this Respect Life Month!
By now your pastor should have received the USCCB Respect Life Program packet for your parish, and if you haven't already, I encourage you to make an appointment to sit down with your pastor to walk through the packet and determine what resources would best suit your parish. USCCB resources for Respect Life Month may also be found
online here
and linked at the left sidebar.
This month there are a multitude of opportunities for your parish community to witness to the 2016 Respect Life theme: "
Moved by Mercy.
" The first such opportunity is the
Fall 40 Days for Life campaign
that started last week. Dallas'
daily vigil
(6 a.m. - 6 p.m.)
outside the
Planned Parenthood abortion facility
is a perfect place to witness as a parish family! Thank you to all who have adopted a time of prayer during the campaign. If your church has not yet had a chance to adopt a time prayer, we are in
critical need of your help.
Below is the list of days which still need to be adopted to ensure continual prayer coverage:
- Tuesday, October 18, 12 noon - 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 19, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 26, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, November 1, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
And that's not all -- on October 15, the Dallas Diocese will mark Respect Life Month with a
Respect Life Month Mass
celebrated by Bishop Greg Kelly and Rev. Lauro Gonzalez at 8:00 a.m. at
St. James Catholic Church, Dallas
with a special blessing for all persons who volunteer or work in respect life ministries (that includes you!). Mass will be followed by Eucharistic Adoration and a Rosary Procession by bus to the 40 Days for Life Midway Rally outside
Planned Parenthood
. Please share this wonderful opportunity to celebrate Respect Life Month with your fellow parishioners, family, and friends!
Also this Fall on November 19 is one of our most popular events -- the annual
Christ Child Christmas Gift Market & Luncheon
at the
DoubleTree Hotel near the Galleria
, benefiting the Catholic Pro-Life Committee and the new maternity homes -- Bella House and Mater Filius. The luncheon will feature keynote speaker Father Edwin Leonard of St. Monica Parish and will be emceed by David Palmer of Guadalupe Radio Network. As always, you may shop the market for free, without attending the luncheon. Visit
prolifedallas.org/luncheon
for more details and to make your luncheon reservations.
Below are some additional opportunities to mark Respect Life Month:
Recently I ran across these words.
"To all the members of the Church, the people of life and for life, I make this most urgent appeal, that together we may offer this world of ours new signs of hope, and work to ensure that justice and solidarity will increase and that a new culture of human life will be affirmed, for the building of an authentic civilization of truth and love."
- St.
John Paul II, Evangelim Vitae, 6
While these words were written several years ago they still ring true today.
People of Life
share the signs of hope about the growth of a new culture that welcomes, respects, and protects life. We have a responsibility to love God and others and to protect the most vulnerable among us: the unborn, the elderly, and all whose lives are threatened.
May you all have a meaningful and blessed Respect Life Month. Please let us know what activities your parish is planning for this month (and send us pictures to post!) to reflect and advocate for the greatest cause of all -- LIFE!
Thanks for all you do for Life and God bless,
David Carr CPLC Director of Parish Coordination
