Greetings and blessings in this Respect Life Month!

By now your pastor should have received the USCCB Respect Life Program packet for your parish, and if you haven't already, I encourage you to make an appointment to sit down with your pastor to walk through the packet and determine what resources would best suit your parish. USCCB resources for Respect Life Month may also be found  online here  and linked at the left sidebar.

This month there are a multitude of opportunities for your parish community to witness to the 2016 Respect Life theme: " Moved by Mercy. " The first such opportunity is the   Fall 40 Days for Life campaign that started last week. Dallas'  daily vigil  (6 a.m. - 6 p.m.)  outside the  Planned Parenthood abortion facility  is a perfect place to witness as a parish family! Thank you to all who have adopted a time of prayer during the campaign. If your church has not yet had a chance to adopt a time prayer, we are in  critical need of your help.   Below is the list of days which still need to be adopted to ensure continual prayer coverage:
  • Tuesday, October 18, 12 noon - 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 19, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, October 26, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 1, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Please prayerfully consider if your parish can adopt one or part of one of these days.  The Church's presences is so urgently needed, but we can't do it alone. Nervous about adopting a day?  Check out these 10 easy tips for filling your adopted day. To sign up your parish, please contact  214-392-7545 or 40days@prolifedallas.org. Promotional and instructional items for your parish participation are   available here . Plus there is a special event this year - Dallas has been invited to be one of the UNITED Rally stops for the national bus tour on October 29 at 7 p.m. at Christ for the Nations Christian Center. We hope you can join us for this historic event!

And that's not all -- on October 15, the Dallas Diocese will mark Respect Life Month with a  Respect Life Month Mass  celebrated by Bishop Greg Kelly and Rev. Lauro Gonzalez at 8:00 a.m. at  St. James Catholic Church, Dallas  with a special blessing for all persons who volunteer or work in respect life ministries (that includes you!). Mass will be followed by Eucharistic Adoration and a Rosary Procession by bus to the 40 Days for Life Midway Rally outside Planned Parenthood . Please share this wonderful opportunity to celebrate Respect Life Month with your fellow parishioners, family, and friends!

Also this Fall on November 19 is one of our most popular events -- the annual   Christ Child Christmas Gift Market & Luncheon  at the DoubleTree Hotel near the Galleria , benefiting the Catholic Pro-Life Committee and the new maternity homes -- Bella House and Mater Filius. The luncheon will feature keynote speaker Father Edwin Leonard of St. Monica Parish and will be emceed by David Palmer of Guadalupe Radio Network.  As always, you may shop the market for free, without attending the luncheon.  Visit prolifedallas.org/luncheon  for more details and to make your luncheon reservations.

Below are some additional opportunities to mark Respect Life Month:
And don't forget --  the last day to register to vote is Tuesday, October 11 . Please spread the word! And you can help your parish prepare to vote with a  Responsible Voting Seminar. Contact Susan Platt at  splatt@prolifedallas.org or  214-392-7545 to schedule a seminar in English or Spanish (or check out the Render unto Caesar webcast replays here).

Also this month, we will have a  Proyecto JosĂ© Day of Healing  for men suffering from the pain of abortion on October 8 in Spanish and a  Rachel's Vineyard™ Retreat , for women and men on November 11-13 in English.

Finally, please mark your calendar for the next  Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Meeting  on November 12 (location TBA). If you can't attend, please send a representative to receive important information about the new schedule for the  2017 Roe Memorial Events  on January 13 and 14, plus much more!

Recently I ran across these words.
"To all the members of the Church, the people of life and for life, I make this most urgent appeal, that together we may offer this world of ours new signs of hope, and work to ensure that justice and solidarity will increase and that a new culture of human life will be affirmed, for the building of an authentic civilization of truth and love."  - St.  John Paul II, Evangelim Vitae, 6

While these words were written several years ago they still ring true today.  People of Life   share the signs of hope about the growth of a new culture that welcomes, respects, and protects life. We have a responsibility to love God and others and to protect the most vulnerable among us: the unborn, the elderly, and all whose lives are threatened.

May you all have a meaningful and blessed Respect Life Month. Please let us know what activities your parish is planning for this month (and send us pictures to post!) to reflect and advocate for the greatest cause of all -- LIFE!

Thanks for all you do for Life and God bless,

David Carr
