Stuff the Bus February 14

Don't forget the Stuff the Bus food drive this Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Annandale Giant on Columbia Pike. Volunteers will be collecting food items for the ACCA Pantry from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 pm. The Food Pantry is currently experiencing a very high volume of requests for food. Every donation helps!

Queen of Apostles Harvests Winter Wear

Mrs. Karen Swider-Lyons (left) and students at Queen of Apostles School helped sort eight bags of winter clothing donated by school families for the February outerwear clothing drive.

Also participating in the winter outerwear drive were Hope Lutheran, Ravensworth Baptist, St. Alban's Episcopal, First Presbyterian, Providence Presbyterian, and John Calvin Presbyterian, in addition to individuals who dropped off bags of clothing. The donated items are being distributed on February 13 to day laborers, the Bailey's Crossroads Community Shelter and families at the ACCA Child Development Center.

We DID It!

Thank you to all who contributed to our successful Challenge Grant Campaign. We raised more than $129,000, on top of the $43,000 Challenge from the Washington Forrest Foundation and anonymous donors. Your support will help ACCA continue to serve neighbors in need.

Received in the Mail ...

"If it wasn't for your organization I would be homeless now. I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help. I hope one day to work for an organization such as yours."

ACCA recently this in a hand-written thank you letter from Michele, a single mom. She enclosed a picture of her son, about 6 years old. We are so glad to know that ACCA has made a difference!

Come to a Pizza Party for the CDC

The ACCA Child Development Center (CDC) will host a fundraiser Friday, February 27, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Magills Famous Pizza and Buffet, 7201 Little River Turnpike, Annandale. A portion of all sales will be donated to the CDC. Please spread the word. Flyers are available in English and Spanish.

On April 25 We're Rebuilding Together

ACCA will participate in Rebuilding Together on April 25, our 26th year of helping create safe and secure housing for our neighbors. Over the past twenty-five years, ACCA has repaired and rehabilitated the homes of 115 low-income homeowners and non-profit housing facilities.

ACCA's goal this year is to sponsor two homes. We need to raise $3,500 for materials and other costs for each home. Also needed are volunteers to help with skilled and unskilled tasks such as painting, clearing brush and making minor repairs. To date, Annandale United Methodist, John Calvin & Providence Presbyterian, Ravensworth Baptist, St. Barnabas Episcopal and the LDS Annandale Stake have signed up to work. Family Emergency Assistance

In January, ACCA helped 44 households with money for rent, utilities, and other expenses. Among those served were a homeless man who was recently released from incarceration. ACCA helped by paying the security deposit for a room in a group home.

ACCA also prevented the utilities from being shut off for an elderly mother who recently needed surgery and who takes care of her adult daughter with disabilities. And we helped a single mother of five children pay the rent after the children's father lost his job and was unable to pay child support. On behalf of all of these and others, we appreciate your generosity for making this possible.

Furniture Ministry

Despite cold winter temperatures, the Furniture Ministry kept rolling in January, completing 38 pickups of donated furniture and making deliveries to 33 households. Among the deliveries was one to a basement apartment in a townhouse where a mother and child had been sleeping on the floor in an otherwise empty apartment. We averaged 15 volunteers per Saturday, plus 7 weekday volunteers. Thank you to all who served.

Food Pantry

groceries The Food Pantry made 101 deliveries assisting 337 individuals in January. We could not have done it without the generous food donations from Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads, the Rotary Club of Bailey's Crossroads, the Lafayette Village Community Association, Treasure Trove, and the Annandale Women's Club. Thanks also go to the Student Council Association of Queen of Apostles School for donating personal care items and the Falls Church Lions Club for donating fresh fruit.

Transportation and Meals on Wheels

Volunteers provided rides to four clients in January. Annandale Meals on Wheels served 19 clients, delivering a total of 622 meals. We thank all our volunteer drivers for providing this valuable service.
