HUMOR COLUMN
More Jokes from Bob:

TOP TEN SIGNS YOU MAY NOT BE READING YOUR BIBLE ENOUGH:
10) The Preacher announces the sermon is from Galatians ... and you check the table of contents.
9) You think Abraham, Isaac & Jacob may have had a few hit songs during the 60's.
8) You open to the Gospel of Luke and a WWII Savings Bond falls out.
7) Your favorite Old Testament Patriarch is Hercules.
6) A small family of woodchucks has taken up residence in the Psalms of your Bible.
5) You become frustrated because Charlton Heston isn't listed in either the Concordance or the Table of Contents.
4) Catching the kids reading the Song of Solomon, you demand: "Who gave you this stuff?"
3) You think the Minor Prophets worked in the quarries.
2) You keep falling for it every time when Pastor tells you to turn to First Condominiums.
And the number one sign you may not be reading your Bible enough:
1) The kids keep asking too many questions about your usual bedtime story: "Jonah the Shepherd Boy and His Ark of Many Colors."

*****

The Sunday School teacher was teaching a class of children about creation. "Now, children," she said, "Who can tell us what makes the flower spring from the seed?"
"God does it," answered one little girl, "but fertilizer helps."

*****

After coming out of the water, a new member exclaimed, "Good grief, preacher, I forgot to remove my wallet from these trousers. It's dripping wet." "Hallelujah," exulted the preacher, "We could stand more baptized wallets."

Trinity Tidbits--Week of Pentecost 20

TOTH logo
The feast of St. Francis is coming up soon. And that means it's time to have a pet blessing! On Sunday, October 9 at 5 PM at Ashley pond we will be having our annual pet blessing. Normally we have this service at the church, but I think this particular Liturgy is a great way to be public about our faith. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to show the Los Alamos community what it means to be an Episcopal Christian living in a relationship with creation. Please invite your friends to bring their pets to Ashley pond on that Sunday.
   Peace,
   Chris
FIRST SUNDAY FOOD SUNDAY is today
Offerings for LA Cares may be placed in the baskets in the Narthex today (or left outside the office this week).
Adult Education Series Continues this Sunday!
Fr. Chris and Steve Younger will continue a discussion/seminar series entitled "Holy Book: Exploring what the Bible says to us." This class will explore various themes and ideas from the Bible, ranging from "Who is God?" to "What does the Bible say about the Afterlife?". There will also be several guest presenters from the wider Los Alamos community.  Make plans to attend!
TOTH Worship Ministry Meets Sunday Oct.9
There will be a meeting of the Worship Ministry in the Library on Sunday 9 October at 12:15 pm to discuss forthcoming Seasons and services (e.g. Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, Epiphany). All are welcome.
House of Hope/Trinity Builders Tea Oct. 1
Invite your friends, family and neighbors to enjoy tea on Saturday, October 1st at 3 p.m. for a great cause! Tickets on sale after both services and available in the church office. Cost is $25 per person and $10 for ages 10 and under. Gentlemen please join us!
Operation Christmas Child
Our Sunday School has participated in this wonderful ministry for the past several years and it's about to get started again for 2016! We are in search of someone new to lead it this year. It could be done by the Sunday School again, led by a different group, or planned as an inter-generational activity. Please let Kandice Favorite know if you are interested in taking the lead on this project that spreads God's love to children around the world.
Shop to Raised Funds for Missions
This week The Shop on the Corner raised $588.50 to support ministries and mission projects in Northern New Mexico and donated two bags of items to Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
"I Read it in the Tidbits!"
You can help increase readership of the Trinity Tidbits just by saying that little phrase more often around people at TOTH. Our Tidbits "open rate" is higher than the industry standard, hovering around 50%. But that means 50% of our people are not reading the news they need from their Church. Publicly acknowledging that you get your news here can be an encouragement to others.

Next Smith's Bucks order is due  Tuesday October 4 by Noon
TOTH's regular order to recharge Smith's Bucks cards is placed
every other week. This is to try and increase our order and get a larger percentage donation for the church from Smith's. If you don't have a card yet, just put a check in the plate and write "Smith's Bucks new card" on the memo line. The next deadlines for Smith's orders are the Tuesdays during the week after LANL paydays: October 4 and 18, November 1, 15, and 29. Mark your calendars! Thank you for your participation!
DIOCESE OF THE RIO GRANDE

C.S. Lewis, Defender of the Faith. Through The Wardrobe, Beyond All Worlds
Author and spiritual director Deborah Smith Douglas will speak at The Church of the Holy Faith.  The title of her talk is C.S. Lewis, Defender of the Faith. Through The Wardrobe, Beyond All Worlds.   The presentation will explore the ways in which the hope of Heaven informed all Lewis' work - both his apologetic works and his imaginative writing - and how we might more deeply appropriate that hope for ourselves, and  be more ready to give an account of it in an often disbelieving and despairing world. The lecture will take place at the Church of the Holy Faith, 311 East Palace Avenue, Santa Fe at 3 p.m. on October 13th. This free presentation is sponsored by the Holy Faith library as part of the Scheffler Lecture Series.
For more information please call 505 982-4447.

Donations of Books needed
for Las Vegas Literacy Group
The Literacy group in Las Vegas gathers books in very good condition for children (toddler through teens), which they give to children without charge and with the guidance of a literacy volunteer. Many children in Las Vegas and the surrounding area have no books at all in the home or very few. The project objective is to get at least one book, for their own, into the hands of all the children here. It also aids the parents, who are guided and encouraged to read to their children, improving their reading skills as well.
Please bring book donations to Diocesan Convention and give to: The Rev. Madelynn Johnston, Vicar of St. Paul's Peace, Las Vegas.
I will deliver any books donated personally when I return to Las Vegas following the convention. I will be at the St. Paul's Peace table or at the ERD Disaster Preparedness and Response table.
Any questions email Madelynn+ at [email protected] or phone at: 505 780-0801.

Diocesan Women's Ministry Announces...
YOU-Yearning, Owning, Understanding the Puzzle Pieces of our Life, 5th Annual Bosque Center Gathering November 18-19This weekend offers a unique opportunity for fellowship, worship, and delving into YOU...Yearning, Owning, Understanding the Puzzle Pieces of your Life under the guidance of Elaine Wilson. Because God is active in our lives, we all have Yearnings. Some of these have come to fullness, others have not.  We must Own and recognize where we are on our journey. This will help us Understand how everything that happens is part of the Puzzle of Our Life. Through sharing, worship, and quiet, we will travel together through an examination of how personal life dreams can become reality in everyday life, using some basic tools (BCP, Bible, etc.) of our Christian heritage.
Bring yourself, your Bible, Book of Common Prayer (BCP), and friends to explore ways for strengthening your personal worship to undergird our daily life. We'll begin at 5:30 PM on Friday evening (Nov. 18) with check-in, followed by dinner and our first exploration. On Saturday, breakfast will be at 8 AM and our time together will conclude by 3PM.
Registration, including supplies and 3 meals, is $30.
Single rooms at the Bosque Center are $52/night and must be reserved on the registration form. (A couple of queen rooms are available for slightly more/night-contact Cindy for info.)
Download the registration or register online at  PuzzlePieces.eventsbot.com .
Elaine Wilson, an active life-long laywoman in the Episcopal Church, is a member of your Cathedral, and a graduate of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She enjoys teaching on numerous Bible and Church history topics, and encourages you to bring your questions on any church-related topic that's had you puzzled..

Recommended Reading from the Diocese

In keeping with the theme of Convention,
Keeping the World Right Side Up:
The Jesus Movement in the Diocese of the Rio Grande,
Bishop Vono commends for your reading:

Jesus Today: A Spirituality of Radical Freedom
by Albert Noland

The Author in his introduction writes:
"My focus is spirituality, not theology. We may deplore the present divorce between spirituality and theology, but since it is spirituality that deals with experience and practice, and theology that deals with doctrines and dogmas, my concern in this book is decidedly spiritual. This is not a book about Christology, the theological significance of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. It is a book about Jesus' own spirituality, that is today, about the experience and attitudes behind what he said and did, what fired and inspired him."
