The following is a statement which was read at the Board of Education meeting last evening on behalf of executive officers of the Chappaqua PTA.
We, as Executive Committee members of the Chappaqua PTA (a Unit of the New York State PTA), pursuant to our stated Mission to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children, make the following request of the Chappaqua Central School District (CCSD) through our Board of Education:

As advocates for the students, teachers and parents of this District and based on our observations and reports of events surrounding the CCSD over the past months, we request that the Chappaqua Board of Education engage an independent consultant to immediately commence a thorough audit of the District's policies, protocols and practices.

Such independent review should include an examination of our District practices and procedures on issues including, but not limited to, the safety and welfare of the children in our schools, the investigation of suspicious behaviors (both observed and reported) in our schools or during school sponsored activities and our District's reporting protocols.

The selected independent consultant should be retained as soon as feasibly possible and strictly held to an agreed upon contractual time-line. Additionally, such consultant should report its findings to an independent board/task force (to be appointed by the Board of Education with due consideration to bias, and representing a cross-section of our community, including the student body). At the conclusion of the requested audit, we ask that the Board of Education promptly examine and consider all recommendations and suggested modifications for the benefit of our District's structure and function and subsequently share action steps with the community at large.

We are fortunate to be a part of the daily routines of each school building and are consistent audience members to all Board of Education meetings. We recognize and appreciate the CCSD and Board of Education's many positive and valuable policies and practices, all carefully designed to benefit the students and create a nourishing learning environment. We believe that through the process of an independent audit, the community will emerge stronger and more united as we continue to enjoy the exceptional educational opportunities of our District.

Respectfully,
