Insight October 2016
Nonprofit Awareness Week 2016
October 10 -15

Get ready for Nonprofit Awareness Week, a commemoration held every October to celebrate the strength and depth of the county's nonprofit sector. The event, created by Nonprofit Prince George's County in 2011, brings together nonprofits, community stakeholders and elected officials committed to serving our residents.

We encourage all nonprofits to create events or highlight their organizations during this week.  Please send any planned activities or events to Hillary Lindeman ([email protected]).

October Ideas &I nfo Luncheon- Corporate Funding
Tracye Funn, Manager of Corporate Public Policy at Washington Gas, Tami Watkins, Senior External Affairs Specialist at PEPCO and Danielle White, Regional VP/Community Engagement of MGM Resorts International are our panelists.

Nonprofits professionals must have awareness of the specific funding priorities of large corporations before requesting grants or sponsorship.  According to the Washington Gas charitable giving website their    primary funding areas are environment, health and education. In PEPCO's 2015 Corporate Social Responsibility Report the funding priorities (listed in order of donation amount) were civic engagement, youth/education, business initiatives/workforce development, arts/culture and environment/energy.

Register now! Don't miss the opportunity to get more tips and information on corporate funding. This event is sure to fill up fast!

Did You Know.....
Starting December 1, the Department of Labor's new overtime rules will take effect. Employees earning less than $47,476 (except teachers, lawyers and doctors) are eligible for overtime if they work more than 40 hours. The current salary threshold is $23,660.

Are you ready for this change? Resources are available through the DC Bar Association (free webinars have been recorded and other information is also available on their website) for nonprofits regarding the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and overtime regulations.  Maryland Nonprofits is also offering several workshops on this topic.
