Eat Local Challenge comes to Downtown Akron
Eat Local week runs through Oct. 1
Countryside Conservancy and Downtown Akron Partnership have developed a fun and delicious project to bring local farmers and chefs of independent restaurants together to celebrate local fare, and introduce diners to the faces behind the dishes on their plates.
Eat Local Week encourages local chefs to buy local products. Fresh, locally grown foods don't just taste better, they are better for you, your community and your planet. Most food travels more than 1,500 miles from farm to plate, while locally grown food typically travels 50 miles or less. This reduces pollution, lowers our dependence on fossil fuels and protects the environment.
Participating downtown restaurants include Nuevo Modern Mexican & Tequila Bar, Crave, 3 Point, DBA and Jilly's Music Room.
Click here for more information and menus of each restaurant.

Hope Lights the Way is chance to celebrate, honor, remember loved ones
We all have special people in our lives who have illuminated our hearts with their friendship, love or simple acts of kindness. At this year's
Hope Lights the Way event, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m., you can pay special tribute to a friend or loved one, living or deceased, by having a luminaria dedicated in his or her honor.
This annual celebration of family and friendship will be held, rain or shine, in Perkins Square Park in front of Akron Children's Hospital.
Luminaria dedications are free of charge and there is no limit to the number of requests that can be made by each individual.
There is no charge to attend this cancer awareness community event. Free parking is available in the hospital parking decks. For more information, visit
www.akronchildrens.org/hope.
