September 2016

President

Perhaps I love mountains so much because I find mountaineering such a great metaphor for life. It came to me on the summit of Kilimanjaro--the rooftop of Africa. Above us the startling bright sun, before us towering glaciers, and below us thick clouds, which obstructed the view of the Africa I know best: one with children who suffer with hemophilia. Sometimes those of us "on top" cannot always see the ones in need below when our view is obscured by so much distance. That's Save One Life's job: to bring to the developed world's attention the needs of those living in far away places.  And for our beneficiaries, we try to show them a summit, a goal, of what's possible: a better life, and friends in foreign lands who care. That's you!

Thank you for all your support of our climb, Barry's ride and of the 1,400 children enrolled in Save One Life.

Nine Climbers, 19,341 Feet and  $84,000 Raised!

The sun was shining bright on August 11 as eight intrepid climbers made their way slowly but deliberately to the summit of the highest
freestanding mountain in the world. President La urie  Kelley, Eric Hill of Diplomat Infusion Services and his son Andrew, Rich Gaton of BDI Pharma and his daughters Taylor and Samantha, Mike Adelman of Aptevo and Dr. James Palmer from the University of Pennsylvania raised over $84,000 to help us provide sponsorships, scholarships, micro-enterprise grants, camps to many deserving people around the world.

Before their climb, Team Kilimanjaro visited beneficiary families with representatives from our program partner in Kenya--the Jose Memorial Haemophilia Society--getting a first-hand glimpse at why the work we do is so important, and how our support impacts lives.

Then, off they went to Arusha, Tanzania, to commence their week of climbing. Conditions were challenging, but everyone persevered and gained the reward of unfurling the Save One Life banner at Uhuru Peak, the highest point on the mountain. Congratulations all, and heartfelt thanks to the many supporters who championed their climbers and helped the team surpass their goal by 28%!

A proud accomplishment!

One Cyclist, 5,000 Miles and $52,000 Raised!

Barry Haarde completed his most ambitious Wheels for the World tour on September 16 in Key West, Florida, 58 days after taking off from the Puget Sound in Washington State.

Barry traversed Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Then he hopped over to Maine to ride the Atlantic seaboard. In total Barry visited 21 states and Washington DC, meeting with members of our community all along the way. We thank everyone who cheered Barry on, and more than 80 generous individuals and organizations who donated to this year's ride. With your participation over the past five years, Barry has raised over $220,000 to help Save One Life serve his blood brothers around the world.

Thank you, Barry!
I am so excited! I just called the two families with new sponsors and they are extremely happy. They have asked me to thank you a million times. Wasswa said he feels so blessed, as he can now go to a better school with good and caring teachers.

Thank you so much and God bless you all abundantly.
