GenEd Session Alignment to T-TESS
Each of our General Education Department session descriptors include alignment to at least three dimensions of T-TESS. Following the session descriptor, you will see a section called "Important Session Information". This is where the alignment will be posted.  Click this  LINK  to see the alignment in detail.
If you have a teacher struggling with a specific dimension of the T-TESS rubrics, you can target sessions to support each teacher's growth. These dimension connections will point you to a T-TESS rubric that contains "look fors" that were discussed in the General Education session and that are emphasized in our new Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System.
Texas High School Mock Trial 2016-2017
Government: Texas High School Mock Trial
This program provides a way for students to gain an insider's view of our judicial system. A team of 6-10 students compete against their peers by analyzing and trying a real case in a mock trial court. Students improve their critical thinking and public speaking skills while teachers touch on Social Studies, Government, and CTE TEKS!

In Case You Missed It: TEA Updates

The following are links to correspondence from TEA regarding or impacting curriculum,
instruction and assessment.

Important math prerequisite information from  recent math listserv correspondence from TEA.

The high school math TEKS  that were implemented in 2015-2016 have changes to each course's respective prerequisites. The word "Recommended" has been removed from most of the prerequisites. For example, new wording in the Algebra 1 standards states, "Prerequisite: Mathematics, Grade 8 or its equivalent". School districts that offer Algebra 1 in the 8th grade should take note of this wording.
Other important prerequisites are listed in the TEA slide shown below:

The following links to the Texas Administrative Code will provide the necessary information for your district to use when making decisions to satisfy the requirements of the law.
From Texas Administrative Code 19 TAC 74. Curriculum Requirements Subchapter B. Graduation Requirements, in particular 74.11(j) and 74.71(k). The law applies to both the Foundation Plan 74.11(a)(1) and the Recommended High School Program 74.71(c).
When considering the Credit by Exam as an option for "or its equivalent," please reference  Texas Administrative Code 19 TAC 74. Curriculum Requirements Subchapter C. Other Provisions 74.24 along with Texas Administrative Code 101.3021 Required Participation in Academic Content Area Assessments, in particular 101.3021(c).
When building your class schedule in the future, please take into consideration the prerequisites in the Math TEKS. It is up to the district to ensure proper documentation for their decisions.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kristin Arterbury: [email protected] or 254-495-9532.
