I enjoy all aspects of natural history, not just the birds, and as you will see from the slide show, we focused as much attention on the butterflies and flowers as we did the birds this morning. There is always something wonderful to see, if you allow yourself to see it.

Today's Bird of the Day was a real toss-up, but since we had such a great example of parenting by the mountain chickadees, they won the honors. Mountain chickadees are not as brightly colored as black-capped chickadees. They are grayer and their drab appearance at this time of the year is exacerbated by old worn feathers which will be replaced by molt in a few weeks.
