Help spread the good news
Our Wednesday night meal is one of the best kept secrets in town.  To help get the word out we want to distribute free coupons for families in our community to come try the meal.

The coupons are on a door hanger and we need volunteers to walk through a neighborhood and hang the door hangers on door handles. If you can help do that Pastor Steve will meet with you right after worship on Sunday to give you some basic instructions and assign a neighborhood.  If you can't meet on Sunday you can pick up door hangers in the church office when it is staffed.

New Home Devotion Resource

Sharing God's Story @ Home will be available each week at worship, as well as on our webpage and through a link on the weekly electronic newsletter, JOYful News. The guide help will you create a family devotional time that fits your family.  The theme will be based on the themes we will be using in worship and Sunday School and will help connect what happens at church on Sunday with your daily life.  It will include a key Bible verse for the week, a mealtime prayer to use, daily Bible readings, ideas for service activities for your family, conversations topics, prayers and blessings.  Check it out.

Weekly Faith Formation Video

Our Bible reading for this coming Sunday is the story of Abraham and Sarah from Genesis 15.  If you want to get a preview or see it again during the week just click here.

Joy's Nursery

Starting Sunday, September 18th, from 9:15-11:15 AM, Joy Lutheran Church's Nursery will be open and ready to care for your children.

Joy's Nursery is professionally staffed with experienced child caregivers who will look after your precious little ones as if they were their own.
Financial Update
Summer is a great time to travel and recreate but...unfortunately some times when we are out of town, those who don't give electronically, don't get their regular offerings in.  The result is that we have had more expense than income the last few months (to the tune of about $8000).

As we gear up this fall for an exciting year of ministry, we don't want to get stalled by a cash flow problem.  We are a generous people. So if you are able to make an extra gift in next couple of weeks to help us catch up, it would be much appreciated.
PS. We include a giving report each week in the newsletter, but for those who would like a more complete financial summary of where we are each month, check the "What's happening" bulletin board in the hallway.

Financial Peace University

Many of us look from the outside like we have the money-management thing nailed down. But under the surface the situation is not so good. It is time to reduce your stress level and take control! Financial Peace University is a simple way to become the master of your money. Classes include video presentation, individual work, and both small and large group interaction. You will learn a basic and very useful budgeting process. You will laugh as you learn practical methods to become debt free. You will learn ways to talk about money in your family that are clear, baggage-free, and rooted in your core values. Through practical, biblically-based principles, Dave Ramsey helps to move people from fear to confidence in dealing with family finances, and ultimately opens up ways to become not just independent, but engaged givers in our communities.

The course begins on Saturday September 24, and runs for nine weeks, through Saturday November 19, 9:30am - 10:45am.  The class will be held at Prescott UCC church.  The registration cost is $93 (it will be the best $93 you ever spend and if you need assistance, talk with Pastor Steve.  To register, or for more information, please contact Rev. Matt Schneider-Adams at the UCC church (715-262-5668).

New JWELCA Directory for 2016-17 Available NOW!!

All women in the church should have received their new Joy Women of the ELCA Directory for this coming 2016-17 year. Please look it over carefully as it contains information about our Programs, Bible Study, Committees, our Prayer Chain, ongoing Activities/Events of JWELCA, and our Policies. It also has information about the Tenth Triennial Gathering of the Women of the ELCA which will be held in Minneapolis next July. If you did not receive a Directory, please contact the church office or take one from the table in the church entrance. If you'd like to be involved in a committee, planning a program, helping with one of our ministries or projects, please contact Marcia Lindseth or Emilie Horken. ALL ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO SERVE!

Women's 10th Triennial Gathering Registration Opens September 6th

Women of the ELCA triennial gatherings bring Lutheran women together from across the church with life-changing workshops, worship, Bible study, and more.
Women will gather in Minneapolis under the theme "All Anew" at the 10th Triennial Gathering, July 13-16, 2017. Registration opens September 6. Early-bird registration, through December 31, is $310; after that registrations are $350. Day registrations are $175.  To Register click here: welcatg.org or to request a registration packet by email, click here: [email protected]
Featured speakers, preachers, and workshop leaders will bring the gathering theme to life, exploring the theme verse Psalm 104:30: "Lord, send forth your spirit...and renew the face of the earth." The verse calls on God to send the Holy Spirit to renew not just God's people, not just God's church, but all God's earth---the creation that God called good.
Because the gathering falls during the observance of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation in 2017, the theme resonates with reformation and transformation images. Participants will explore ways in which the Holy Spirit changes us, acknowledging that reformation and transformation have happened and continue to happen within the community of Women of the ELCA: womenoftheelca.org.
(Article from "Seeds for the Parish," Summer 2016)

Please note: The Northwest Synod Women's Organization is awarding two $200 scholarships to each Conference to help with the registration fee for the Triennial Gathering. Preference will be given to first time attendees. If you'd like to apply for one of the two scholarships being awarded in the St. Croix Conference, please complete the Scholarship Application which can be obtained from Marcia Lindseth or Emilie Horken. Deadline for submission is November 1, 2016. JWELCA will also be raising some monies which we hope will help our Joy women attend the Triennial Gathering which will never be closer to us than Minneapolis is - and Triennial Gatherings should not be missed! They are one-of-a-kind experiences!

Mission Project for August-September

Thank You For Your GENEROSITY!

School has started!!!  Joy is still collecting needed school supplies for those students and families who may have difficulty obtaining them. We will be collecting such things as pencils, notebooks, folders, rulers, glue, crayons, etc. Lists of items requested by teachers at Malone School and the Prescott Middle School are posted in the Narthex, so you will know specific items to purchase if you so desire. FILL THE BUS!! Many of the items collected will be given to our Prescott Food Pantry for those families who use the Food Pantry and have children who need the school supplies. School supplies are on sale NOW so why not pick up some items on your next shopping trip so that you can contribute to this mission in-gathering in September!

THANK YOU!!!

THANK YOU to Tom Gujur for painting the bookkeeper's office.

THANK YOU to Ken and Linda Wilson for making the school supplies collection display and for taking the collected items to the Prescott Food Pantry.

Caregivers Support Group

Beginning Thursday, September 22, 6:30pm - 7:30pm, at Prescott United Church of Christ.

Have you come into the joy and struggle of caring for a family member on an extended basis? There are days when this can absorb all your time and energy. These meetings, with support from the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Pierce County, will be a place for confidential conversation, mutual support, and problem-solving. We will address concerns like the need for respite, resources for care-giving, special issues, and self-care for care-givers in a context of grace and spiritual support. At the first meeting, on September 22, we will identify an ongoing meeting time that best fits peoples' schedules. Please contact Rev. Matt Schneider-Adams (715-262-5668) for additional information.
