The OLMA Overview -- September 16, 2016
What a week! It was aweome. The energy level and enthusiasm on campus is high and we're settling in to what promises to be an outstanding year. We were all treated to an assembly featuring Preston Centuolo (pictured below during assembly). He moved us all and reminded us of the power we have to inspire others. Coming up next week is a special reception for the parents of freshmen and new students. It takes place on September 20, from 6:30 PM--7 PM, and is followed by our school-wide Back-to-School night, which begins at 7 PM. Next week, we are having OLMA's first official "Sisterhood Ceremony" as part of Mass on Friday, September 23, at 10 AM. Parents are invited to join us. You won't want to miss it. Also coming up is our annual Communion Breakfast. This is a wonderful morning of prayer and fellowship. We hope to see you all there.

Meet Meghan Baker, Class of 2018
While at first glance, she may appear to be shy and quiet, OLMA junior, Meghan Baker is anything but that. She is a scholar, athlete and leader who chose OLMA over many other high schools becuase she felt at home. "I went to Williamstown Middle School with 500 other kids," said Meghan. "When my parents suggested that I take a look at OLMA I agreed to shadow. That was all it took . I immediately felt the difference in the way students and teachers communicated and treated one another and decided that OLMA was where I wanted to be."
Meghan remembers not knowing anyone when she walked into OLMA on day one, but it didn't take long for her to make friends. In addition to maintaining straight As, Meghan will start her third year as a member of OLMA's Lacrosse team this spring. She's also a member of the Spanish Club and is excited to be a part of the new Greenhouse club that will be starting soon. Meghan was also part of the group that traveled to Greece and Italy this summer. You can take a look at
video highlights
of her trip in the OLMA Headlines section of the website.
Looking ahead, Meghan is excited about college and is even thinking about law school thanks to an opportunity she was given at OLMA during her freshman year. On the third Wednesday of each month, Meghan serves as the youth representative of the Juvenile Court Committee. "I was nominated by one of my teachers and decided to apply," she said. "It involved a lot of paperwork, an interview and training, but I'm so glad I followed through." In her role on the committee, Meghan provides the youth perspective on the cases heard by the larger, all-adult committee. "It has opened my eyes not only to the process, but to how fortunate I am to have parents who love and support me," she said. "It's a reminder of all that I have to be thankful for. " That goes both ways, Meghan, as we are thanful for you.

Tribute Golf Classic on October 11!
Among Our Lady of Mercy Academy’s biggest supporters are the three individuals and one family selected for induction in the 2016 Salerno Society Hall of Fame. Recognized for the profound impact they’ve had on South Jersey’s premier, Catholic school for young women, this year’s slate of honorees includes: Victoria Imbesi (student athlete & OLMA alumna), Kathleen Valla (OLMA alumna), Thomas McCarville (Coach), and The Peter and Marie Dandrea family.
In their honor, OLMA will hold its annual Tribute Golf Classic on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Galloway National Golf Club. Honorees will be inducted into the Salerno Society Hall of Fame at a dinner event being held on Friday, October 28, 2016 at The Greenview Inn in Vineland. All proceeds will go toward OLMA’s growing athletic program.
The Salerno Society was created in 2012 and is named in honor of Sister Mary Dolores Salerno, D.M., OLMA’s first principal. It was through her efforts that OLMA introduced sports as an integral part of the school’s curriculum.
“The mission of The Salerno Society is twofold,” said Society Chairperson, Bernadette Corwonski-Miller. “First, we want to honor Sister Dolores for her incredible commitment to OLMA as principal. In addition, we want to pay tribute to the many others who have contributed to the growth of our school as athletes, scholars, teachers, coaches, benefactors, and career professionals.”
For more information about how you can be part of the Tribute Golf Classic as a player or sponsor, contact Jerry Covella at 856.690.1999, or visit the event website at:
