AFE's 2nd Fire Ecology Calendar Photo Contest!
We're holding a photo contest in conjunction with the Fire Congress. Winning photos will appear in a 12-month 2016 calendar that will be given as a premium at the event. Entrants whose images are chosen for the calendar will receive additional complimentary calendars. Images must illustrate a principle of fire ecology, fire effects, fire management or fire history/fire regime. The submission deadline is Sept. 15, 2015.

| Letter to Students from the Volunteer Coordinator We want to invite all SAFE students to consider joining us in San Antonio! Please be sure to register by Friday night, July 31, to take advantage of these discounted rates. There are a number of 'just for student' activities in the works and it is an excellent opportunity to meet other SAFE members from around the world. Here are a some other ways that AFE has set up to help students with conference costs.
Volunteering: SAFE chapters are given an equal opportunity to get in on reduced registration rates ($175) for members who volunteer at the conference. Priority for choice of volunteer duties is given to those who register early. Note: you do not need to be in SAFE to volunteer, but we encourage all students to join SAFE! Awards Banquet discount for students: We are offering a greatly reduced rate to the awards banquet dinner at just $10! Purchase your ticket when you register. TREE grant: Through Joint Fire Science Program there is the TREE grant. To learn more and apply for the tree grant http://afefirecongress.org/travel-grants/ Room Share ~ New: AFE will be assisting students with share hotel room accommodations; resources are limited and we don't guarantee everyone who applies can get a room. If you are applying for a tree grant, you may request lodging support. For other students who are not applying for a tree grant, you can still request support for lodging. | Information about the Student-Only Special Session "Fire Trek"
Deadline extension is
September 1st!
Students are invited to give presentations about completed research projects, thesis/dissertation research, or other works-in-progress. For those students who have never presented at a professional fire conference before, this is your chance! Speaking at the International Fire Ecology and Management Congress would make an excellent entry on your curriculum vitae, and a great step forward in your emerging professional careers.
Fire Trek: The Next Generation
This specially selected panel of speakers will showcase research of fire ecology and management students from across the world. Students represent the next generation of professional fire scientists, educators, and managers, and their research projects often reflect the topics of leading scientific controversies and management challenges in wildland fire. These 20-minute oral presentations will provide a "sneak preview" of some of the emerging issues and innovative approaches to fire ecology research and management that these future professionals hope to contribute to the wildland fire community. Indeed, student researchers aim to
boldly go where no fire ecologists have gone before!
To apply for the Fire Trek special session, go to the Fire Congress abstracts submissions page http://afefirecongress.org/oral-and-poster-abstracts-submission-form/ and fill out the information and upload an abstract up to 200 words maximum that describes your proposed presentation. In Question #3 of the form, click on "SS21 Ingalsbee (Fire Trek). Then, send an email message to Dr. Timothy Ingalsbee, Co-Director of AFE, at [email protected] that includes your full contact information and title of your abstract. Make It So! |
