Get Informed and Influence Public Policy
Your Chamber encourages individuals in the business community to be actively involved in the political process. We influence public policy decisions by providing knowledge-based programs and forums that provide information in a business context for decision makers. With that in mind during this election season, you have the opportunity to learn more about the candidates running for office within our region and find out who's "pro-business" and working on your behalf. Candidate forums have been scheduled in the five local communities, Dakota County, and regionally within the various Legislative Districts. Take the time to get informed and educated before you go to the polls on November 8. Register online for one or more of our Candidate Forums. Click here for a full list of candidate forums.

Did You Know?
Labor Day is a day for you and me! Many of us view Labor Day as the end of summer but it's really a day to recognize all of the workers in the U.S. and reward them (hopefully) with a day off. Don't forget to thank your workforce for all that they do to help your business be successful!

Discover Available Business Resources
The Minnesota Chamber's premier business assistance program, Grow Minnesota, is pleased to announce the launch of our
Business Resources
. We view the online site as an important tool to our mission of retaining Minnesota businesses and encouraging them to expand here.
Businesses can navigate the pages to identify and access state and regional resources in seven categories: business financing; entrepreneurship; environmental and energy; exporting/importing; research and data tools; start and manage a business; workforce development. What are the criteria for accessing money from the state's angel loan fund? What is current employment law for issues that commonly surface at the workplace? Who can assist in developing a strategy to enter the export market? Who can help guide a business through the process of environmental permitting? Answers to these and many more questions are a click away.
There's no better way to develop and grow Minnesota's home-grown economy than by connecting Minnesota businesses. Particularly useful on our Business Resources site is a link to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development's manufacturers supply chain database. It's intended to help Minnesota manufacturers buy materials, components and finished products from each other instead of out-of-state or foreign suppliers. It's a win-win for all Minnesotans.

Member Spotlight: Community Involvement
Derek Boeve, Minnwest Bank
I am a Commercial Loan Officer with Minnwest Bank, a family owned bank with 24 locations across Minnesota. At Minnwest, we are dedicated to the community and provide excellent products and services to our customers. Personally, I work with local and regional businesses to put them in a position to succeed in the future. Minnwest is also a preferred SBA lender which has been a very useful tool for the bank to assist new and growing businesses reach their goals. My involvement with Chambers began in Luverne, MN where I served as president of the board. I noticed very quickly the benefit Chambers have to communities. Now with the Dakota County Regional Chamber, I am active on the Ambassador Committee, Business Excellence Awards Committee, and the South Metro Young Professionals group. The Chamber has been a great way for me to get involved in the community while meeting many business owners and community leaders.
