WAVERLY KROGER
Celebrates Grand Re-Opening
On Wednesday, September 14, Waverly Kroger customers were invited to join in a grand reopening celebration at the 57,000-square-foot store, which was recently renovated "to provide customers with a superior shopping experience."
Waverly Kroger originally opened in 1980. Throughout the five-month renovation "upgrade" process, which cost $2.5 million, the store remained open for business.
"The renovation allowed for the creation of a Starbucks, where skillfully trained baristas prepare and serve specialty coffee, tea, and pastry items," said Jennifer Jarrell, media and government relations for The Kroger Co./Columbus Division.
Other changes were made to the produce department, floral area, deli department, and self-checkout areas.
"In the produce department, customers will notice new cases and bins which highlight the store's fresh offerings. Customers can select fresh-baked artisan bread, rolls, and bagels from the sampling kiosk in the upgraded bakery," said Jarrell. "The floral area was relocated to improve ease-of-shopping, while additional product assortment was added in the meat, seafood, and deli departments, including numerous varieties of fresh, chef-prepared sushi."
Six new u-scan machines were installed at the front of the store as well, "for customer convenience," and the pharmacy was expanded "to allow pharmacists to better serve patients."
"I am thrilled to provide the community, our customers and associates an updated store with enhanced offerings," said Waverly Kroger store leader Randy Wellinghoff. "I joined this team in March, shortly before the remodel began. These last few months have been exciting both professionally and personally as I grew up minutes away from the store and still live in the community with my family. As a store leader, I could not ask for a better group of associates to work with or a community to call home."
Members of the media were invited to participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the store at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, and customers took part in an open house celebration from 4 to 6 p.m. that afternoon. The day's events included caricature drawing, balloon animals, and entertainment for kids, prizes, costumed characters, and free product samples throughout the store.
