The Skokie Home Scoop - September 23, 2016

Dear Skokie Families,

The summer-like weather continues, despite the first day of Fall having come and gone this week.  This is the time of year when our bike racks and sidewalks are the busiest, and the circle drive and playground stay crowded before and after school.  Student safety is our primary concern, especially when we have so many walkers and bikers coming and going from Skokie each day.  Our students are only as safe as the choices they make as pedestrians, as well as the choices our neighborhood drivers make.  Even with the support of our Winnetka Police Department, we continue to witness dangerous choices made by both pedestrians and drivers, particularly at the intersections of Elm and Glendale, and Oak and Glendale.  Take a moment this weekend to review crossing safety with your family.  More and more daily travelers find their eyes drawn to a phone screen as opposed to the road, and a reminder conversation about staying alert may be very helpful.

On another note, I would like to extend a warm invitation to all of our parents to a fun social event hosted by our PTO on Friday, September 30.  We are eager to provide more and more opportunities for our parents to connect to each other as your children move through Skokie and Washburne schools.  This is the third year we have been fortunate to host a night like this for parents.  I hope to see you there!  Click on the link below to register for this annual event.

Finally, if you are interested in getting involved at Skokie, we are interested in connecting you with opportunities to do so! Please take a moment to fill out a quick survey based on your volunteer interest.  We will follow up in the coming weeks with our needs, and look forward to having you in the building.   CLICK HERE TO VOLUNTEER!

Enjoy the weekend together with your family, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday!

Most Sincerely,

Kelly Tess
