September 15, 2016

In 2011, we quietly launched a campaign initiative to later be called LIFT - Leading in Faith Today - with a goal of $20 million to support school operations, strengthen our endowment, improve our campus and the teaching and learning environment, and develop student programming. We knew that our goals for LIFT were ambitious, but we believed the Chaminade Julienne community was ready to make significant investments in the Catholic educational experience at Chaminade Julienne.

Over the last five and a half years, the CJ community - the Sisters and the Marianists, our alumni, parents, local and national foundations, local corporations, and community supporters - has responded generously to the priorities of LIFT. So generously, in fact, that we were able to announce yesterday the conclusion of LIFT and the historic achievement of all our goals!

Because of the support received through LIFT, we have renovated classrooms, hallways, Mary, Our Lady of Victory gym, and our cafeteria, created the CJ STEMM Center, and constructed the Eagle Tennis Center. We have funded strategic programs and grown our endowment and annual fund which will enable more students to experience all that CJ has to offer. We have extended our campus with the addition of premier athletic facilities and created new venues for our students to showcase their talents and interests.

Together, we dreamed big and have made history. We have celebrated along the way, as each new initiative or project came to fruition, but now we celebrate the conclusion of a journey of faith and hope. Joining us in the celebration is the entire City of Dayton, since the City Commission and Mayor Nan Whaley declared September 14, 2016 to be Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School Day in Dayton. What an incredible honor to be acknowledged by community leaders for the impact our students, teachers, coaches, and staff are having on the greater Dayton region.

While LIFT - Leading in Faith Today - is now successfully completed, our school community is just beginning to reap the benefits of the important investments we have made and will for years to come. So, while we celebrate success, we will continue to consider how we can more fully serve the young people of our area by strengthening the ministry of the Marianists and the Sisters at Chaminade Julienne.

NEWS

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE
LAST NOTICE: Parents have reported receiving letters from an organization called C3 - www.c3workshop.com The letter contains information regarding attending a workshop to learn more about college financial aid. The website states, " There is no cost for attending the workshop or the personal interview. Additional services are made available to those students and families needing our assistance."

Please be assured that Chaminade Julienne does not participate in selling or sharing our mailing lists and parent information with outside organizations - they obtain contact information by other means.

These workshops, while potentially helpful, include much of the same information about the financial aid process and college search that we offer through Family Connection and Naviance. Your 9th grade students have received login information and our Guidance office will be working with those students to use Family Connection's tools in the college process, including financial aid. You can read the Guidance Bulletin and follow our Guidance page at link  to receive the most up-to-date information.

MINISTRY & SERVICE

From the Chaplain's Office
Yesterday at our All School Liturgy, I challenged the CJ community to show mercy in small and concrete ways.  Maybe it's taking the time to listen to a friend going through a rough time, or deciding not to gossip, or forgiving someone, or simply smiling and saying "hi" in the hallway. I also asked the students to share their works of mercy on social media with #BeMercyCJ. I invite each of you to also go out and show others the mercy of our Good God through your actions, words and attitude. Let's all #BeMercyCJ!
