We have had another fantastic week at Lovejoy Elementary. We are all working on having a growth mindset and being eager to accept challenges. Instead of "I can't," we say "I'm not there YET!" This will help us to be flexible thinkers now and in our future.
If you have not had the opportunity, I highly encourage you to join our PTA. Our PTA sponsors many programs like W.A.T.C.H. Dogs, the Ice Cream Social, and author visits. They definitely add value to Lovejoy Elementary and help us continue our strong legacy. I hope you will join us tonight at the Ice Cream Social beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Foundation for Lovejoy Schools
The Foundation for Lovejoy School's Annual Appeal #WeLoveLovejoy, is underway. Our goal is to receive donations from 650 donors totaling $200,000. This year's campaign slogan "#addaHamilton" is inspired by the popular musical Hamilton, We are asking our donors to consider increasing their giving by adding an extra $10. Every gift is valuable to the mission of enhancing education in Lovejoy. Our PTA will, once again, host the Lovejoy Elementary Ice Cream Social. I highly encourage you to attend, as it's a great time to meet or to reconnect with other Lovejoy families. I hope you'll be able to join us on September 15th at 6:00pm in the Lovejoy Cafeteria. Also, our staff members will be attending and serving ice cream and toppings to all who attend! There will be a PTA General Meeting at 7:00 following the Ice Cream Social.

A Note from Transportation
- Riding the Bus Home with Friends
With the continued growth of our community, bus ridership has also grown. The majority of our afternoon routes are at or near bus capacity. Therefore, transportation will not be able to accommodate students riding the bus home with others when the student is not assigned to the bus route. This would include sending your child home on another student's bus for play dates, sleep overs, group projects, sports practices, etc.
In the rare instance that you have a last minute emergency and need your child to ride the bus home with someone else, please call your child's school to get permission so the school can inform the bus driver of the change. If you have any questions or concerns regarding bus services, please contact the Transportation Office.

Lovejoy Children's Choir - 4th, 5th, 6th Graders
We are pleased to announce the 7th season of the Lovejoy ISD Children's Choir. This choir is designed to serve the needs of our district's 4th, 5th and 6th grade students who are committed to a musically exceptional experience. Auditions will be held for any and all LISD 4th, 5th and 6th grade students interested on the dates listed below. Returning members do not need to audition.

Singers selected to sing with the Lovejoy Children's Choir will rehearse weekly to prepare for a short performance at the LISD Fine Arts Festival on Saturday, December 3, 2016, and the final concert on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Our first rehearsal is Tuesday, October 11th in the SCIS choir room.

Student Nutrition
Families who wish to apply for free or reduced priced meals need to complete a new income application every school year. The free/reduced price eligibility of our returning students rolled over to this school year for the first 30 school days. However, last school year's Free/Reduced Priced School Meal Applications are set to expire on October 3, 2016. Students who currently receive free or reduced price meals but whose family has not yet submitted an application for the 2016-2017 school year or who have not received an eligibility letter from the Student Nutrition Office will be changed to full pay status on October 3, 2016. Households will be responsible for the cost of school lunch until a new application is submitted and processed. If you have not already completed a 2016-2017 Free/ Reduced Income Application, you can pick one up at your school's office, cafeteria, or download one from our website at www.lovejoyisd.net. To download an application from the website click on Departments, Student Nutrition, then Free/Reduced Income Applications. Once completed, please return the application to the Student Nutrition Office.

Introduction to BYOP® (Volleyball) Meeting and Presentation: October 3
BYOP® Program Overview:
This training program is designed for any volleyball player, no matter what skill or ability level, as long as their goal is to become the best they can be. Parents must be fully dedicated to being actively involved in this program. BYOP® will provide excellent volleyball fundamental skills training, as well as life lessons to both player and parent.
BYOP® Program Details: Each training session will build upon a solid foundation of all fundamental skills needed to participate in the sport of volleyball. Parents must be engaged in every training session and involved in the home training program involving physical and skills activities.
