(see below for details)
September 8 - 25
Pigs do Fly Productions will present Larry Parr's
Invasion of Privacy
from
September 8th through September 25th at a brand new venue - The Abyss Stage Wilton Manors.
Invasion of Privacy
is based on the lawsuit brought against Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (The Yearling) by her neighbor, Zelma Cason. Cason contended that Rawlings' description of 'her' character in Rawlings' book Cross Creek made her out to be a 'hussy' and sued the author for invasion of privacy (the courts of the time found libel to be too ambiguous). It was a cause of action that had never been argued in a Florida court. "That was a time when a woman lawyer was a novelty in the South, and man's moonshine was nobody's business, and an invasion-of-privacy lawsuit was something of a brand-new issue, which eventually became a popular reason for going to court." Jack Lyons, Theatre & Film Critic
"Larry Parr has a flair for sassy humor and for focusing his story on the main issues."
Sarasota Herald Tribune
"Parr does a fine job creating the complex Rawlings - and he is given a gift to have (Missy) McArdle bring her to life with passion and honesty." FloridaTheaterOnStage.com

"Gutenberg! The Musical!' is offensively funny at Boca theater"
Rod Hagwood - Sun-Sentinel (Read more
HERE!)
Through October 2
First there was Evita. Then there was Hamilton. And now comes ... Gutenberg! The Musical! Both a loving tribute to and a biting satire of The Great American Musical, Gutenberg! The Musical! is a hilarious spoof that tells the story of two aspiring playwrights trying to get funding for what they believe just might be the greatest show ever staged: a big, splashy song-and-dance spectacular about printing press inventor Johannes Gutenberg. With an endless supply of charm and enthusiasm, and an abundance of bumbling idiocy, "Bud" and "Doug" sing the songs and play all the parts in their historical "epic," using only baseball caps to differentiate among the show's 30 characters. Developed at Upright Citizen's Brigade before becoming an off-Broadway hit, this hilarious production at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton is a whirlwind of music, laughter and fascinating tidbits about movabl
e-type printing.

A Public Reading Of An Unproduced
Screenplay about the Death of Walt Disney is indeed a full blown stage
production, not a reading! Sure, the play centers on a cast of four actors who have
been assembled to deliver a public reading of a screenplay about Mickey's maker,
but the actors soon find themselves gripped by their roles and the boundaries
between actor and character soon twist and meld and then morph some more over
the course of the play's 70 riveting minutes. Walt is going to read you a screenplay
he wrote. It's about his last days on earth. It's about a city he's going to build that's
going to change the world. And it's about his brother. It's about everyone who loves
him so much, and it's about how sad they're going to be when he's gone. Right? I
mean, how can they live without him? How can anyone live without him?
"Enjoyably weird"
~TIMEOUT NEW YORK

corrupting influence of this wish on the spirit and the flesh"'
