By Jennifer McNelly, Executive Director of The Manufacturing Institute
October 7 marks the fifth annual Manufacturing Day, when thousands of manufacturers will again host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and community leaders at open houses, plant tours and educational sessions to showcase modern manufacturing technology and the cool jobs available. It is a chance for students to see the diverse career options that are innovative, impactful and durable.

As the old idiom goes, "Seeing is believing,' and that is the guiding principle behind Manufacturing Day. It was created in response to a dire need in America: The industry today faces a major shortage of skilled workers. An estimated two million manufacturing jobs will go unfilled over the next decade due to companies' inability to find talent with the required skills...   Sign up your company now or find an event to participate in  #MFGday16. Transportation and Logistics
When it's time to get fossils from one place to another, CAP Logistics and CAP Worldwide are industry leaders in shipping these particularly historic and fragile items. For example, CAP recently shipped an ankylosaurus, which would have been 20 feet long and weighed nearly 13,000 pounds in its life, from Montana to the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.

COBRT sponsor CAP Worldwide is also involved with gem, fossil and mineral exhibits across the country including those in Denver right now. We recently met with one of the exhibitors, CAP customer GeoDecor, to learn more about what it takes to move a dinosaur.   See more .
Energy and Environment
Since its release late last week, Consumer Energy Alliance's  new report, " Incentivizing Solar Energy: An In-Depth Analysis of U.S. Solar Incentives ," was recently featured through national outlets such as Yahoo Finance and Energy Manager Today.

The report provides a comprehensive quantification of solar incentives available for U.S. energy consumers. It analyzes the cost for a typical solar facility in 15 states and details the federal, state, and local incentives available for rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV). No previous analysis has ever quantified this data. CEA supports a variety of energy resources and development.   Learn more
Investing in our drinking water and wastewater systems, secures a bright and prosperous future for generations to come. We need to invest in our local water systems. Public officials at the local, state, and national level must prioritize investment in water, because no American should ever have to live a day without water.

Public private partnerships play an important role in building the drinking water and wastewater systems of tomorrow. Innovation is driving the water sector, and will allow us to build modern, energy efficient, and environmentally advanced systems that will sustain communities for generations to come.

None of this will be easy work, and nothing can be taken for granted. But water is too essential to ignore the crisis in front of us. We need to prioritize building stronger water and wastewater systems now so no community in America has to imagine living a day without water.   How you can help
