Principal's Message

Dear Murwood Families,

Thanks to our generous PTA, we are back to enjoying our Soul Shoppe assemblies.  Our students worked with Jared on their first lesson,  "Checking In," during which they  learned emotional self awareness and self-management skills.  Through storytelling, Jared explained how one child's daily frustrations led to a "full balloon," and how that affected everyone around her. Our students learned how to check in with their feelings and ask for what they need by creating an "I Message," and healthy strategies to empty their balloon.  In case you have misplaced the letter sent home with your child, click on this link to discuss this lesson with your child and learn the language of Soul Shoppe. It really helps children when we all use the same language.

Have you joined our PTA?  This year, our teachers will be guest speaking at PTA meetings.  This Tuesday, September 20, our Fifth Grade teachers, Kevin King and Colleen Wolff, will be talking about the educational experience of Outdoor Education at Camp Loma Mar.  Want to know how your child will spend their day in the  outdoor classroom and how that will translate into continued learning when they return to school?  Come to the Murwood Library at 7 PM on Tuesday.  We will also be collecting donations for the trip. This year's suggested amount is $360.

A safety request:  We continue to have children left unsupervised on campus before the 8 AM yard duty begins.  A reminder that there is NO adult supervision and that our gates are open with no one to monitor the play yard until 8 AM.  Your child's safety depends on all of us working together to make sure they are supervised at all times.  Please do not drop your child off before 8 AM.  We lock our gates at 8:15 when the first bell rings.

Thank you,
Carol Nenni
Murwood Principal

Walking Club - Volunteers Needed
The good news is we have volunteers early in the week and can start Walking Club next week!
We are looking for volunteers to help at lunch recess from 11:40am to 12:30pm.  We need someone who can help on Wednesdays, Thursdays and/or Fridays.  We need volunteers to mark cards as the students walk laps around the track.  The students can earn rewards as they meet some milestones.   This program started 12 years ago and it is one of the children's favorite programs here at Murwood.

If you are interested and can help out, please let us know.  We are also looking for someone to be in charge of coordinating this program.  Please contact Janet Parella or Samantha Balboni.

Picture Day Reminder
Bring your best smiles....Picture Day is coming, Tuesday, 20th September!!
From the PTA President

We Need You!!

The school year has begun and we are busy planning a lot of great activities for the year and we need you!!  There are tons of opportunities for us all to make a difference helping our kids.

Currently, we need some help with...
  • Webmaster - Are you technologically savvy???  If you are, we have a job for you and it's only about 1-2 hours per week updating our website.
  • WCEF Representative - Are you interested in hearing how our foundation is doing and what they are doing to help all of our schools?  If so, we have the perfect job for you...WCEF Rep.  You would have to attend one WCEF Meeting and one PTA meeting a month to update us on all of the exciting programs they are implementing for our district.
  • PTA Meetings - Take time once a month and attend a meeting.  Its a great way to meet parents and find out what we have going on here at Murwood.  We will have our first meeting of the school year on Tuesday, September 20th at 7pm and our 5th grade teachers will be presenting about Outdoor Education!
So many great opportunities.  Come on down and get involved and make a difference for our kids!

PTA President
Reflections

Does your child like to be creative?  Do they have a unique story to tell?  Then take the opportunity to participate in this year's Reflections program!  The theme this year is "What Is Your Story."  Feel free to check out  http://capta.org/programs-events/reflections/ for more information.  All rules and entry forms are in the Reflections box in the office.  Keep your eyes out for a free workshop in October.  At the workshop, students will have access to art materials to create their own project.  If you are interested in helping out or have questions, please contact Stacy Cerruti at  [email protected].
Welcome Back Picnic
Friday, September 23 from 5-7 PM

Join your Murwood friends for a  school -wide  picnic . Bring your lawn chairs/blanket and a  picnic  dinner.  DJ Dave will be spinning our favorite tunes on the field as everyone kicks off the 2016-2017 school year!  Dessert will be provided. Please remember that parents must attend with their children, as there is no school supervision. Please leave your pets at home!  Our campus is pet free during school hours and events.  Thank you!

We will also be hosting a Halloween Costume Exchange/Donation. Bring your gently used Halloween Costumes to share with the Murwood Community. Looking for a Halloween costume? Find one at the  picnic!! All remaining costumes will be donated to a local charity.  We hope to see you after there!
