We thank everyone who joined us for another successful annual networking summer dinner cruise last month, with support from presenting sponsor FirstLight Fiber and sponsors PCC , Empower Mobility , and Inntopia . Check out the " By the Numbers " handout we prepared for the cruise, featuring some vtTA and tech milestones since last year.   
 
With summer transitioning into fall, the calendar is filling up fast with Vermont tech events. This includes vtTA's networking event with Solar City on September 15 and Innovation Week , bookended between the Hackathon and the Vermont Tech Jam .

As part of Innovation Week, the vtTA will present a Lunch & Learn session in partnership with
C2 - Competitive Computing on From Startup to Success - Insights into Growing a Tech Business in Vermont , featuring a panel of leaders from three businesses that started small, but have grown to become successful Vermont tech enterprises. We're also working in partnership with BTV Ignite, Seven Days and Vermont PBS on a possible Governor's candidate forum on Vermont's tech economy.

The third week in October is officially Innovation Week in the Queen City. City officials gathered with business and nonprofit leaders outside City Hall earlier this month to announce the celebration of Burlington's technology sector with a week of events Oct. 15-22.

Federal, state and local officials spent hours earlier this month discussing ways Vernon might bounce back from the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant's closure. They focused on two ideas floated by Vernon residents: a business incubator and a high-speed fiber-optic Internet network.

Community College of Vermont and the Vermont Department of Labor are partnering with employers for manufacturing training, including K&E Plastics, JBM Sherman Carmel, and GS Precision, to offer a Certified Production Technician course in Bennington. This free course will help advanced manufacturers close a workforce gap and individuals receive the necessary training to fill open positions.

In a low-slung, nondescript brick building in Randolph, engineers with Applied Research Associates are developing high-tech sensors that are used to monitor global hot spots, war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, African battlefields and U.S. military bases at home and abroad.

The Vermont Information Consortium announced that the state of Vermont's electronic Property Transfer Tax Return (ePTTR) online application has processed more than $100 million in property transfer taxes for the state. The service was built at no cost to the state over a two-year period, by VIC in conjunction with the state's Department of Taxes.

New Co-Working Spaces
Vermont's co-working spaces are growing. Coworking Plus has opened on Main Street in Brattleboro with a mission to support economic growth in southern Vermont by providing collaborative office space and educational programs to entrepreneurs and small businesses.

InnoVaTe - Second Season
 
Vermont PBS is producing a second season of InnoVaTe, a series featuring some of Vermont's most innovative tech creators. The series is hosted by Victoria Taylor, a nationally recognized web entrepreneur and online personality.  InnoVaTe will air on Vermont PBS' main channel and online at vermontpbs.org. Season 2 will premiere in October. National Manufacturing Day
Vermont Manufacturing Month  
 
The Vermont Manufacturing Extension Center (VMEC) is spreading the word about the 5th annual "National Manufacturing Day" (MFG DAY) scheduled for Friday, October 7, 2016 and for "Manufacturing Month" in Vermont.
 
Last year during National MFG DAY 2015, thousands of manufacturers across the United States opened their doors to guests in a coordinated effort to help illustrate what modern manufacturing means and inspire the next generation of manufacturers.  Vermont participants are encouraged to shine their own spotlight on manufacturing by hosting events throughout the month of October and to register for free all Vermont events on the national website, www.MFGDAY.com .  
 
Project Management Professional Certification Test Prep Boot Camp 
 
Desai Management Consulting is offering a three-day Project Management Professional boot camp, Nov. 9, 10 and 11. In the last three years, Desai has trained over 250 professionals and has a 99% success rate for those who have gone on to take the PMP exam.
