If you live in zip codes 13202, and surrounding neighborhoods, we want to hear from you! The Downtown Committee is partnering with Research & Marketing Strategies, Inc. (RMS) to conduct an online survey exclusively for Downtown Syracuse residents. At the end of the survey, as our way of saying thank you for participating, you'll be entered into a sweepstakes to win a package of (4) $25 gift cards to restaurants in Downtown Syracuse. This is a value of $100.

What Transportation Trends Would Make it Easier to Get Around Downtown?
Focus Group Opportunity This Monday
10:00 am at The Tech Garden

How do you get around in Downtown Syracuse? Would programs such as public bike share, Lyft or Uber make your life easier? Our friends at the Syracuse University Center of Excellence are gauging your interests in exploring alternate transportation services.

If your schedule allows, this Monday at 10:00 am, you're invited to attend a 50-minute focus group at the Fibertech Theater in the Tech Garden, located at 235 Harrison Street (map).

You'll learn more about the project, which looks at opportunities to develop, implement, grow and promote urban mobility through enhanced walkability and bikeability, car and bike share programs, and how existing public transportation services can be better used.

You'll also have an opportunity to lend your voice to the process and help SU Professor Rahka understand how people move throughout our community, and what future mobility options may be pursued.  This is all part of a Feasibility Assessment of Sustainable Transportation (FAST) throughout Downtown Syracuse. If you haven't already, please take this quick survey by clicking here.

If you're interested in joining the conversation, please RSVP by emailing Kristine Sherlock at  [email protected]  or by calling 315-422-8284. For more information about FAST or the survey, please contact SU Professor Rakha via email at  [email protected]

Bittersweet to Re-Open as Sugar & Co. In the Next Few Months
Wine and Dessert Bar will expand its menu

Changes are on the way to the wine and dessert bar located at 121 West Fayette Street (map), in Armory Square. Bittersweet, which closed over the summer, will re-open as soon as January under a new name, Sugar & Co.. Though it will still be known for wine and desserts, the style of food served will shift from paninis to more of an appetizer-based feel, featuring sandwiches and salads. The new owners Kristin Andrzejewski and Erin Fazzary plan to rotate the food and drink menu seasonally to offer different selections. They say the bar will keep four draft beer lines and may even add a full liquor license to serve spirits and cocktails eventually.

Everson Museum of Art Introduces Two New Exhibits
"Marie Lorenz: Tide and Current Taxi" and "Angela Fraleigh: Between Tongue and Teeth"

Marie Lorenz: Tide and Current Taxi will be on display at the Everson Museum of Art starting Saturday, September 24 through Saturday, December 17, 2016 . The exhibit explores Lorenz's 520-mile urban waterway journey from Buffalo to Albany, and into Manhattan. Lorenz documented her voyage with pictures, videos and stories as she stopped at historic sites and museums along the Erie Canal corridor.

The Opening Reception is Friday, September 23 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. It's free for Everson Members or $15 for non-members.

Angela Fraleigh: Between Tongue and Teeth will be on display from Saturday, September 24 through Saturday, December 31, 2016. The exhibit brings together more than a decade of Angela Fraleigh's works, which question and reimagine women's roles in art history, literature and contemporary media. In a bravura style that weaves together realism and abstraction, Fraleigh creates striking works ranging from intimate portraits to monumental figure paintings.

Fraleigh will offer a guided gallery walk of her exhibition and discuss selected works on October 12, 2016 at 6:30 pm. The gallery walk is free with Museum admission.
