Growing Deep Roots to Share God's Love
September 22, 2016

The story of Jesus' triumphant entry  into Jerusalem, which we normally celebrate on Palm Sunday, is the story of His proclamation, and the people's recognition, of his royal role.  But, in just six days their joyful shouts of Hosanna turned to angry cries to "crucify him."  Join us this Sunday as we look at the events leading up to the arrest and trial of Jesus and consider the times when we forget our praises lifted to the Conquering King because what we want is ....Burger King?    Consider reviewing the following scripture ahead of our sermon:

Feedback on the sermon series? What new information have you learned? We'd love to hear from you.

Volunteer Highlight
There are many, many volunteers working behind the scenes at Creekwood, and we love to share stories of how people are giving so  graciously of their time and talent.
Today we are featuring a group of volunteers who dedicated their past Saturday (in 98 degree heat nonetheless) to building a home for the beautiful Escamilla family, pictured here, whom you can learn more about here

Yep, they did this...
Director of Missions, Annmarie Barajas, said, "I want to give thanks to all of the Habitat for Humanity volunteers who came out this past Saturday to work on the home build in Princeton for the Escamilla family!  You all worked diligently and tirelessly to install trusses and siding on the home.  The work of the 15 Creekwood volunteers and the four volunteers from Habitat completed the task at hand and put the build ahead of schedule!  We even had the special treat of our youth providing a delicious taco lunch and great fellowship."

Doesn't look like "zero construction experience" to us!
Volunteer Tonda Paulsen shared some of her experience: "This was the first Habitat build in which I participated, and I was a little nervous about it as I have zero construction experience.  However, our project leader, James, and his crew showed us exactly what to do and didn't give us anything we couldn't handle.  It was hard work, but fun and very rewarding.  I truly got to build a house!  And I love that we got to meet the homeowner and see her working alongside us.  She is very excited and appreciative about her new home.  I'll definitely be doing this again!"

Veteran Habitat-er Mike Jarvis shared, " Great teamwork, in spite of the heat, we worked hard and heard no complaints.   Feels good to be helping others improve their lives."

Our next Habitat build is coming up on October 15.  This one will again be for the Escamilla family in Princeton.  We are working on assembling our volunteer list for this build so if you are willing and able, please email Lyndsey Lessner .  If you haven't been trained as a Habitat volunteer, you will need to attend a one-time training.  Volunteers must be 18 years or older to serve by themselves.  Some builds allow volunteers age 14 or older to attend with a parent depending upon the task for that day. The next volunteer training is October 7, from 7 - 8:00 p.m. at 2060 Couch Dr. in McKinney.  RSVP for the training to ncc-habitat.com

The Rw andan humanitarian, Paul Rusesabagina, who hid and protected 1,268 Hutu and Tutsi refugees during the Rwandan Genocide, once said, "If we want to change things, we must first change ourselves. If we want to play--if we want to change the world--we must first show up on the field to score."  We invite you to join us in thanking our Creekwood Habitat team for showing up, for making a difference, and for acting on their call.  They scored!
fallfestCreekwood Fall Festival October 15
Mark your calendars now for the Fall Festival, and plan to join us for some family fun.  We'll have a petting zoo, a bounce house, carnival games, bal loon  animals, face painting, a children's craft table, a hayride, popcorn, cotton candy,  hot dogs , and much more!

It takes volunteers to make this important community outreach event a success.  We're seeking volunteers of all ages, including individuals to donate candy and bake (or pick up) some goodies for our ever-popular cake walk, i.e. cookies, cupcakes, brownies, etc. Click here to sign up.  Beginning this Sunday, we'll have a large bucket in the Gathering Area to collect candy donations--look for the scarecrow.  It may still be hot, but fall is officially here!
Pumpkin Patch is Coming!
Don't be tempted to get your pumpkins anywhere else. The Creekwood pumpkin patch will open for business Saturday, October 1.  We'll beat anyone's price!  Ok, not really; we can't do that. But, all Creekwood pumpkin patch proceeds will go to support Creekwood Youth mission work.   Over seven tons of pumpkins will be brought in to create our one-of-a-kind patch, which will be open for business daily from 9 a.m. to dusk.

We rely on volunteers to run our pumpkin patch, and youth volunteers can earn service hours.  Click here to sign up to staff the patch.

Zoe Helps Ministry India Trip 2017
What a blessing!  Following presentations last Sunday, we had two commit to our trip, with nine more seriously considering joining us.  We also had two people who, though they could not join us in India, pledged to each sponsor one of our travelers.

Our church and children have done an incredible job financially supporting seven working groups this year.  If you feel called to participate and join us in this special mission, note our deadline of October 1. The trip cost is $990, plus airfare, visa, and vaccinations for a total of approximately $2500.   For more information, visit:  http://www.zoehelps-trips-of-hope/   or contact Leah Edwards at  leahedwards721@gmail.com .   Click here to read about our 2016 mission trip.
