Excerpt From Last Week's Sermon

"There is an interconnectedness of all humanity," Dr. James Cone, founder of Black Theology and one of my mentors, writes, an interconnectedness "that makes the freedom of one person dependent upon the liberation of all. No one can be free until all are free."

This is what our people found in Selma, and what we are being invited to
remember today.

Standing on the shoulders of those who came before us, we have a new opportunity to be authentic to our values, a new opportunity to live out our belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every person. We are not being asked to give our lives until death. But we are being asked to take a stand.

WorshipWorship

USNH is offering a 9:15 to 9:45 am Sunday morning service of meditation, interspersed with music and readings, coordinated by Bill Braun. It is a wonderful opportunity to pause and reflect for a short while - to soothe our spirits and have a brief respite in our busy lives - a worship gem we hope you will attend.

Child care for children up to ten years old is available during Worship services.

Casting our Lot (When So Much Has Been Destroyed)
On September 25, we join with thousands of faith communities across the country as we lift our voices in memory of those lost to gun violence and cry out for change.  How long? It's a question the biblical prophets asked and one we ask thousands of years later as our society remains devastated by gun violence.

Faith and Forgiveness: A High Holidays Service
As we turn our hearts to the Jewish New Year, we ponder questions of forgiveness, atonement, and redemption. What role does faith play in our willingness to forgive and our capacity to be forgiven?

Defying Hate
Refugees are fleeing for their lives, and yet many face discrimination and closed doors because of their race or religion. Join us in reflecting on how we can defy hate. Refugees will offer personal experiences.

What's God Got to Do With It?
What do Unitarian Universalists believe about God, anyway? Whatever our idea of God: Holy, Divine, Mother, Father, Gaia, Great Spirit, Infinite Oneness, non-existent, there is room for all of us in Unitarian Universalism. Join us as we explore together different conceptions of God in our theologically diverse faith.
Rev. Megan Lloyd Joiner, Jesse Greist, Linda Pawelek

Books Available From the Book Cart
Sunday Mornings

The Book Cart came close to shutting down in June but we are exploring ways to order and offer a limited range of new books, especially books being used by congregational groups (e.g., Small Group Meetings, the UUA Common Read, and Social Justice Task Forces) and those written by USNH authors.
Currently three books are available after services most weeks (look near the Stop and Shop sales):
* Guns Don't Kill People, People Kill People - the Preventing Gun Violence Task Force will be leading discussions on the book next month.
* Aging as a Spiritual Practice - to be used by a Small Group Meeting
* Hearing Voices, Living Fully - Claire Bien's memoir, which challenges a purely medical understanding of this phenomenon
The UUA Common Read, The Third Reconstruction: How A Moral Movement Is Overcoming the Politics of Division and Fear, will be available as soon as it is published in paperback next month.
We will soon have a few copies of Defying the Nazis: The Sharps' War (hardcover, pay between $22 and $27.50). To reserve or order a copy, please email Becky Friedkin ([email protected]) as soon as possible.
The Stop & Shop/Shop Rite team is in need of more help.
If you could sell the cards one
Sunday a month that would be very helpful.  It involves being at USNH at 10:15am and staying until around 12:30pm.  Training provided.  Please call Ann Levison  203-281-1548

Stop & Shop and Shop Rite
cards are available after Sunday service
$50 and $100 denominations.  Checks or cash please.
