8 Reasons Why Fall is the Best Running Season
Today marks the first official day of fall - finally! Even if it doesn't quite have that brisk, chilled feel in the air yet, we know it's right around the corner.

While others are excited to cuddle in their sweaters and go to a pumpkin patch, runners have a whole separate list of reasons to be excited for autumn.

1. Less humidity and sweating
2. It's way easier to breathe
3. 'Tis the season of PRs
4. New season, new mindset
5. Fall running clothes are cuter and comfier
6. Colorful trees make usually monotonous runs fun
7. Race goodie bags are WAY better
8. Who doesn't love to step on crunchy leaves?

Fall is the best season, but also seemingly the shortest; take advantage of all these autumn perks now, because before we know it, we'll be trudging through snow, wearing layers on layers of gloves and putting newspapers in our shoes to dry them out.

CARA's Free Timed Runs Come Back This Fall
After implementing them this summer and seeing much success, the Chicago Area Runners Association has scheduled more 'Go Runs to occur in the city this fall.

At 9 a.m. on Saturday mornings, beginning this Saturday through Nov. 12, runners can meet in Humboldt, Warren and Washington Parks to participate in the chip-timed 1-mile or 5K races. The Chicago Park District will pick up the $9,000 bill to keep these events free for runners, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The first series was held from May 21 to July 9, and had nearly 1,800 runners participate. Almost 3,000 miles were ran over the summer during the program, proving it to be a success, Chicago Park District spokeswoman Jessica Mazey-Faulkner says.

"We implemented 'Go Runs with the hopes of bringing running to neighborhoods that normally don't think of health and fitness," Executive Director of CARA Ed Zylka says. Zylka hopes to bring the program to the suburbs next year.
  Who Doesn't Love Race Recaps??
With the fall race season in full swing, here at Chicago Athlete, we are busy running and writing about all the great events in the Chicagoland area. Last weekend, we had staff members attend three different races! Read the recaps below, and check back every week as the season continues to learn about other local events, and maybe be persuaded to try them next year!
North Face Endurance Challenge Series - Wisconsin 50 Miler - Eagle, WI (9/17)
RUN MFG Half and 5K - Arvey Field in Chicago, IL (9/17)
North Shore Triathlon - Wilmette, IL (9/18)

Like to run AND write? We are always looking for more ambassadors to attend races and write recaps on them. We often get free entries for the runners! For more information, email [email protected].
