God's Work. Our Hands.

Sunday, September 11 was "God's work. Our Hands." Sunday, a dedicated day of service in the ELCA. Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ - every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life - flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God's grace. We'd like to know what your congregation did on "God's Work. Our Hands." Lutheran Church in the Foothills, La Canada made f abric care kits for Lutheran World Relief, t reat bags for local first responders, gathered food for My Friend's House, gathered s chool supplies for homeless kids, and wrote l etters to heroes (i.e., soldiers) and shut-ins.

I n honor of the 15 th Anniversary of 9/11, Salem, Glendale hosted an appreciation luncheon for our local firefighters from Station #26. Sunday school children made "Thank You" cards for them. The women's group, along with several volunteers, finished the kits for Lutheran World Relief, which were packed up to be shipped with the quilts in a couple weeks. Youth and confirmation mentors worked down at the Glendale YWCA for the Domestic Violence program. Some of their "cat loving" volunteers helped clean the cat room for the Glendale Humane Society. And they had a "No Child's Wet Behind" Diaper Drive for Ascencia shelter. "Our hands were very busy but we had lots of fun!!"

Mt. Olive, Santa Monica dedicated the new Bruin Shelter for homeless UCLA and Santa Monica College students, in addition to welcoming and thanking first responders.
