Playing the Weather Game
Lots of area cyclists play the "weather game".

They put off registering for a ride because they don't know what the weather will bring.

For example, I talked with 2 riders about last weekend. One told me about getting up and looking at the radar - seeing a line of thunderstorms - and going back to bed.

In the very next email, another rider told about seeing the same storms on the radar, but driving to the ride anyway. The storms that were approaching melted away and he enjoyed a great ride.

The first rider had not registered for the ride. With no skin in the game, it was easy to roll over and miss out on an excellent ride.

The second rider had registered before the ride. He was willing to give it a shot and at worst, drive to a local coffee shop and have breakfast with his friends.

Yes, it is hard to know what the weather will bring. Trying to figure it out ahead of time is a challenging task. Whenever I am involved in planning and producing a ride, we go on no matter what the forecast says, because we are committed to putting the ride in place.

I like to ride my bike and I look for opportunities to ride as often as my schedule allows. When it comes to organized rides, I register ahead of time because I want to: 1) Save money 2) Be committed to ride and 3) Let the ride director know how many people plan to ride so that his/her team can be prepared.

So....how do you play the weather game?
Greenville, TX - September 17

Will it rain? Will we get to ride? We'll find out on Saturday morning. I'll be there hoping to ride that NEW 63 mile route in pleasant conditions or going to have a leisurely breakfast with friends. Ride day registration will be $35.
