Setting Goals to Drive Student Growth

Each year, teachers and school leaders are asked to determine their individual Professional Growth Plans (PGPs) and school-wide goals at the beginning of the school year, including Student Learning Objectives (SLOs). After a learning year last year, this year we are returning to the original expectation that teachers and specialized service providers select two SLOs. SLOs are set by you to help identify and monitor student progress throughout the school year.

As a first step, you are asked to set preparedness levels for your students at the beginning of the school year. This is an indicator of a student's readiness to learn the skills and content that will be taught. To assist you in this process, a toolkit has been created to provide definitions and guidance for completing the first step in the SLO process.

Understand more about how SLOs are used as part of student growth in LEAP and find guidance for setting your PGPs.

Have questions about why two SLOs are required this year? Please read this letter from Deputy Superintendent Susana Cordova.

Initial SLO submissions and PGPs are due Sept. 30.
