Shucchou Service or "Office Hours"
Launched in Orange County
to Support Japanese Speakers

In an effort to support the needs of Japanese older adults, KEIRO initiated a pilot project with the Orange County Japanese American Association (OCJAA) which provides for Shucchou Service or "office hours" with free consultations by KEIRO staff at the OCJAA office in Tustin twice a month from now until the end of this year.

This pilot project represents an expansion of services and the opportunity to engage older adults in Japanese which will continue to help KEIRO better understand needs and prioritize resources to create the greatest impact.

KEIRO Health Promotion Specialist, Kanako Fukuyama who is bilingual (Japanese and English) and holds a Master of Social Work degree, and is a counselor with the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP), offering free, confidential counseling and community education for Medicare beneficiaries in Orange County, is staffing the office hours to provide services in Japanese in Orange County. In addition to conducting programs for KEIRO, Ms. Fukuyama trains volunteer facilitators to lead KEIRO's numerous health-related classes and programs which benefit the community.

Office Hour Dates:
