MESSAGE FROM CEO:  Becky Harkema
T he summer has certainly been busy!  We have wrapped up youth baseball/softball in the towns of Kalona and Washington.  The pools have been extremely busy with the hot summers and not having any rain days.
All ball park concession stands have reached record numbers in sales.  It has been really great to see how the YMCA of Washington County continues to impact so many people.  Below are three stories that reflect this.

Youth Development:  This is our first summer to be operating the Columbus Junction pool.   It is a really great facility for the city.  The picture shows a few of the kids who swim on a daily basis.  We also offer swim lessons and Aqua Zumba.  This adult water exercise class has been a great hit with 27 participants in each class!  What is even better is the wonderful collaborative relationship that the YMCA has built with the Columbus Junction School District and the City of Columbus Junction!
At all the pools the YMCA operates, safety is our first priority.          We administer deep water tests and watch our bather load numbers so that we aren't overcrowding the pools.
Healthy Living:  Our adult basketball leagues have been very successful too!  We have leagues in Kalona and Washington.  This year's champions in the Washington league is the Team Jacob Quinn.

Social Responsibility:  In May and again on Saturday, June 18 and June 25, I had the pleasure to help at the Kewash Half Marathon, Kalona Days 5K and 1 mile run and the Trek Fest 5K run.  The Kalona run was a fundraiser for the Kalona   Chamber.  The Trek Fest 5K run was a fundraiser for the  Riverside Elementary School.  Both events were great.  I was proud to have the YMCA involved in giving back to each community.
