HEGWOOD NEWSLETTER
May 2016

Welcome to the May addition of the Hegwood Electric Newsletter.  Our newsletter delivers a snap shot report for technology updates and industry news about Industrial Automation and Controls..and our role in all of it.  We hope this gives you some "mind candy" to think about and in particular your own applications and requirements.  If you want some more information on any particular subject and how we can assist, please contact us.

Lots of Changes!

Happy May to everyone.  It's been awhile since we've last posted our newsletter, but the reasons are great. 2015 gave us some fantastic opportunities for growth which we took on with enthusiasm. Thank you to our customers that gave us this business and thanks to our employees who worked hard to make it successful.  We've improved our processes, changed our website, added new employees, and added an additional 4000 ft of manufacturing and inventory space. During that time, we also built 790+ control panels! Details of all these exciting changes and what they mean for you are below. We've also found a nice article on Managing automation upgrades, retrofits.  Enjoy.

New Website

Several years back, we totally revamped our website to show the services we offer and some of the many locations our product is being used. One problem we had was the Gallery of pictures kept "disappearing" on us. There was some web issue, etc. This has been corrected. We've cleaned the site up and we will be adding more information in the upcoming months. We hope this will assist you with your Industrial Automation and Control choices. Take a look and let us know what you think! Just click the Hegwood logo above to go to the new website.

Also, we are now "Social"!  Please click the links on the side bar to Like Us on Facebook and check out our profile on LinkedIn and Google+.

Managing automation upgrades, retrofits

There was an interesting article in Control Engineering by David McCarthy of TriCore Inc.  A number of our customers have wrestled with this challenge and we've written about it in the past. As more and more automation systems become obsolete (AB PLC5's anybody?), this will become a compounding issue.  An AB PLC 5 processor 1785-L40E reconditioned is around $8,000.00 now.  If you can get one! Don't let your plant or machines quit on you. With over 45 years of experience, we can help you with this transition.  Give us a call.

New Employees

With our growth opportunities, we had to make some internal changes and bring on some more talent.  As you may know, this can be a very difficult task. Thanks to Jeff Lovejoy of  ActionCoach, we were able to fine tune our hiring process and  have hired some really qualified personnel.  Let me introduce you to them!

Greg Anglin
Greg Anglin.
Greg started with us part time and has come on as a full time worker. He has quickly learned many of the technical skills necessary to build quality control panels.

Melvin Balot

Melvin Balot
Melvin has gone through IEC training and worked many years in the field as an electrician. Using his unique talents is serving him well with us.

Deen Brown.

Deen Brown
Our newest engineer, Deen is a graduate of Southern

Dean Hayles

Another IEC trained electrician with years in the field, Dean is an accomplished control panel fabricator who is learning additional control knowledge through our own controls class.

Paul Nguyen.

Paul Nguyen

A Closing Quote on Change

I'll end this newsletter with a quote on change, which we at Hegwood Electric do embrace.

"The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself."

I hope you have found this newsletter informative and entertaining. If you have any interest in our products or Hegwood Electric services, please let us know.
