The Indian Craft Shop is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30p.m., and the third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Shop is closed on federal holidays.

VISITING US
|
|
A photo ID is needed for entrance to the building. During weekdays, visitors may use either the
C Street or E Street entrances (E Street is closer for Metro riders). Handicap access ramps are available at both entrances. During Saturday hours, visitors must use the C Street entrance.
|
|
Public Transportation
Farragut West (Blue, Orange, and Silver Line) and Farragut North (Red Line) are the closest metro stops. It is a six-block walk, or you can ride an 80 or S1 bus to 19th and C streets. There is metered parking on the street and several parking lots within a few blocks.

Welcome and Happy September to You!
|
Wow, here we are in September! We're transitioning into the fall season with cool mornings and early signs of changes in the landscape. Summer recess is over, kids are back to school and here at The Indian Craft Shop, we're gearing up with our fall buying and event calendar. We're very excited about new work coming in and our upcoming guest artists' visits, and we hope you are, too!

The Fall Season is a Great Time to Make A Change! |
As we all transition through the seasons, we may knowingly (or not!) be making changes in our own lives. Back to school shopping for new clothes, harvesting or pruning back our gardens, a new coat of paint in a room, perhaps a new arrangement of furniture or a new bracelet to "add to the arm" all are examples of changes that can make wonderful differences in our lives.
We've been inspired for changes here at the Shop and, yet again, have rearranged our showcases and displays; it brings us great joy to showcase the beauty of the arts in a way that highlights their very best aspects. We appreciate your comments and we think now, with our new arrangement, people are really enjoying the more open feel that we've created in the second room of the Shop.
One of our other fall season changes has been a new look to the colors and
design of our webstore.
We have put great thought into the design and colors such that the changes may seem subtle at first glance. We've wanted to work on these changes for a long time and now, and with a bit of time and energy from our in-house "hidden talent", we've been able to get on the road with our new look! What's New in the Shop and Online
|
We had been waiting for a while to receive new storytellers by Dorothy Herrerra (Cochiti) and cannot believe how charming they remain and how each and every one of them is different. We've been carrying Dorothy's work for well over 20 years and know many of you have enjoyed their charm as much as we do - and we thank you!
Owls, bears, cats, frogs and horses are among the figures we have in the Shop and in a few different sizes too! We have a couple on our online store, so have a look and
let us know
if you would like images of others!
We also have received new fetish carvings and jewelry from a great variety of artists from Zuni, new jewelry from Earl Plummer (Navajo) and, believe it or not, we are now receiving holiday cards and 2017 calendars!

Oh My! We're Talking Books...Again!
|
It's becoming like the "old days" when we were excited just about every month with a new book title coming out...and, yes, it seems to be happening ever since we decided to discontinue most of our book titles! Who can figure?! We think it reinforces the powerful significance of books related to the arts and we're delighted! We will continue to offer
20% off most book titles AND we will continue to let you know as great new books are published in the American Indian art world!
This new title has a very special place in our hearts since it's all about our longtime friend, artist Eddie Morrison (Cherokee). They Call Me Eddie Morrison, Cherokee National Treasure is written by Bill Keith with a forward by Principal Chief Bill John Baker; Pelican Publishing Company, Louisiana, 2016.
We are still awaiting the first printing which is expected to be in mid-late October and the publisher promises a "lushly illustrated book that features Eddie Morrison's sculpture and his life story, that of a humble man with a deep passion for his heritage and for the future of his people. Join curators from the Smithsonian Institution's National Postal Museum in Washington, D.C., and learn about the surprising ways that mail has moved to, though and from the national parks.
Murals Tours
Discover the art and architecture that made the Stewart Lee Udall Department of the Interior Building a "symbol of a new day" during the Great Depression.
Tours are offered at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
