HUMOR COLUMN
More Jokes from Bob:

A Nun was taking a shower one day and she heard the door bell ring, she yelled "Who is it?"
And the person ringing the door bell yelled, "I'm the blind man."
So the Nun got out of the shower and wrapped her hair in a towel, she didn't bother putting a towel around herself.
She opened the door and said, "What do you want?", and the man said, "I'm here to check your blinds."

One day God called Jesus and his helpers into a meeting.
God said that he wanted them to create a data base on heaven's super computer.
He said He wanted them to list everyone who had ever been born and all the good and bad things that each had done since the beginning of time.
They all said they could do that and so they sat at their keyboards for hours, then days and weeks.
Finally they were almost done when there was a power failure in heaven and the computers all went off. Only seconds later the lights came back on and all the computers started to re-boot. There was much crying and gnashing of teeth and pounding of keyboards as this happened. Down at the end of the table sat Jesus with a big smile on His face.
Why was Jesus smiling amongst all this dismay?
Jesus Saves!

The Lutheran church had a small congregation of very faithful people - all but one brother who had quit coming to church. The pastor went to his farm, and asked him why he didn't attend anymore. "Gee, Pastor, I only have these coveralls and old boots, and I don't want to come to the Lord's house dressed like this."
The pastor said, "I've got a spare shirt, sports coat, slacks and shoes I'll give you if you'll come back!"
The man agreed, and the pastor came back that afternoon with the clothes. Next Sunday the man didn't show up again.
He went out to the farm and asked, "I gave you all those clothes, why didn't you come to church?"
"Well, Pastor," the man said, "I got up and showered and shaved, and I put on those neat duds, and I looked in the mirror. I looked so durn good I went to the Episcopal church!"

Next week, I will be at a CREDO conference in Alabama. It will be a week where I will learn more about parish leadership, personal health, and spiritual growth.  I went last year, and it invigorated my ministry.  This is the second year of the module, and I am eternally grateful for being able to go.  I ask that you pray for me, that I would listen to the Spirit and feel a fresh wind of God's presence.  I will be praying for you, too.
   Peace,
   Chris
Evensong Sunday at 6 pm

High School Lunch Feeds 200!
We will not be having our Friday Lunch this Friday due to early dismal for the Homecoming Parade. Our outreach to high school students will continue with the Friday Lunch Program, next Friday, September 23rd in Kelly Hall. If you can help cook for, serve, or greet these wonderful young people, please come and help anytime Friday morning through Noon. We serve at 11:15am.     Our High School Lunch program feeds around 200 kids every Friday during the school term. Kids of all socio-economic backgrounds attend and the meal is free to them. It is a wonderful outreach of our church to the young people of this town and it is a perfect use of our proximity to the high school to show God's love to the youth of Los Alamos High.
Adult Education Series Continues this Sunday!

Next Smith's Bucks order is due  Tuesday September 20 by Noon
TOTH's regular order to recharge Smith's Bucks cards is placed
every other week. This is to try and increase our order and get a larger percentage donation for the church from Smith's. If you don't have a card yet, just put a check in the plate and write "Smith's Bucks new card" on the memo line. The next deadlines for Smith's orders are the Tuesdays during the week after LANL paydays: September 20, October 4 and 18. Mark your calendars! Thank you for your participation!
CHILDREN'S BAZAAR DONATIONS
It's not too early to start donating items!
Though the Bazaar is December 3, we welcome any items we can get in advance in order to price and sort them for the big day. You may drop your donations in the box by the South entrance/Sunday School Wing. This is such an amazing community outreach event! Not only does it offer a great opportunity for children to purchase affordable gifts for their families, but it also fosters a sense of independence and a spirit of giving. Additionally it provides a wonderful time for fellowship for visiting families while their children shop!

I have just begun to learn about all the wonderful things the children of the parish have designated the money raised to support, such as Episcopal Relief and Development, local charities, and scholarships, to name a few. I am excited to be a part of this event!

MORE Efficiency in Parish Life Event Planning with "Sign up Genius"!
Parish Life Ministry would like to streamline events and make the distribution of the work load less onerous. We are doing a few things - ensuring events go under the proper ministry so it doesn't all fall back on Parish Life; ensuring there is a coordinator for each event or it won't happen (someone needs to spear head events); online signups for volunteers or food.
If you're not receiving emails from www.SignUpGenius.com (for sign ups at the church), please email me at [email protected].  And if you want to be removed, please also contact me. I have removed a couple of names and added a couple of names already. This is a way to easily sign up to volunteer for set ups, clean ups and potlucks. You can also go to the SignUpGenius web site and click at the top right to look for sign ups. At the next page, enter my email and the security letters. You'll be directed to our TOTH sign ups.

C.S. Lewis, Defender of the Faith. Through The Wardrobe, Beyond All Worlds
Author and spiritual director Deborah Smith Douglas will speak at The Church of the Holy Faith.  The title of her talk is C.S. Lewis, Defender of the Faith. Through The Wardrobe, Beyond All Worlds.   The presentation will explore the ways in which the hope of Heaven informed all Lewis' work - both his apologetic works and his imaginative writing - and how we might more deeply appropriate that hope for ourselves, and  be more ready to give an account of it in an often disbelieving and despairing world. The lecture will take place at the Church of the Holy Faith, 311 East Palace Avenue, Santa Fe at 3 p.m. on October 13th. This free presentation is sponsored by the Holy Faith library as part of the Scheffler Lecture Series.

Donations of Books needed
for Las Vegas Literacy Group
The Literacy group in Las Vegas gathers books in very good condition for children (toddler through teens), which they give to children without charge and with the guidance of a literacy volunteer. Many children in Las Vegas and the surrounding area have no books at all in the home or very few. The project objective is to get at least one book, for their own, into the hands of all the children here. It also aids the parents, who are guided and encouraged to read to their children, improving their reading skills as well.
Please bring book donations to Diocesan Convention and give to: The Rev. Madelynn Johnston, Vicar of St. Paul's Peace, Las Vegas.
I will deliver any books donated personally when I return to Las Vegas following the convention. I will be at the St. Paul's Peace table or at the ERD Disaster Preparedness and Response table.
Any questions email Madelynn+ at [email protected] or phone at: 505 780-0801.

Recommended Reading from the Diocese

In keeping with the theme of Convention,
Keeping the World Right Side Up:
The Jesus Movement in the Diocese of the Rio Grande,
Bishop Vono commends for your reading:

Jesus Today: A Spirituality of Radical Freedom
by Albert Noland

The Author in his introduction writes:
"My focus is spirituality, not theology. We may deplore the present divorce between spirituality and theology, but since it is spirituality that deals with experience and practice, and theology that deals with doctrines and dogmas, my concern in this book is decidedly spiritual. This is not a book about Christology, the theological significance of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. It is a book about Jesus' own spirituality, that is today, about the experience and attitudes behind what he said and did, what fired and inspired him."
