PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:

Thank you to each of you for your dedication to volunteering your time and talent to help run the programs of the Art Council of Southwest Florida- the Spring Show, the Coop Gallery and the Winners Circle. It is only through your dedication that the Art Council is successful.

This organization is run entirely by volunteers and the Coop is a true testament to what many hands can accomplish. To that effort we are forming a Coop Gallery Committee to help ensure the success of the Coop continues.  Currently the Coop breaks even each month, in order for the Coop to gain financial stability and continue to gain momentum in supporting the local artists in Southwest Florida.  If you are interested in serving on this committee please contact Gallery Director Don Hutchinson at [email protected].

I want to thank Marisa Hatfield for co-chairing the 2017 Winner's Circle with Naldyne Light.  If your organization has not received the prospectus, please contact Marisa at [email protected].

In order to keep the website fresh and accurate we need to receive information as soon as you have new classes, workshops, event dates, etc.  Please send information to Yesim Bozoklu at [email protected].

Highlight your signature event or upcoming program. Please send the information to [email protected] for inclusion in the newsletter, deadline is the 25th of each month.

 Thank you-

MICHAEL WILCOX to lecture on Thursday May 18, 2016 at 6PM.

The Art Council of Southwest Florida welcomes Michael Wilcox to the Coop Gallery.  Michael will be speaking on "The Color of Nature"

The average person may find pleasure in nature's color schemes but few examine them closely. Of all people, the artist is probably closer to the delicate changes and nuances of hue which are on offer.

But even among artists it takes a special interest to really observe the delicate, finely balanced harmonies which constantly surround us. Most are deceivingly simple, being based on very few base colors but a vast range of saturation.

The colors of nature might or might not be associated with evolution and survival. However,  one thing seems fairly certain; the peoples of the world find that the colors which surround them work together with ease.

From the muted yellows of the desert to the lush greens of the rain forest, everything in the landscape seems to balance. Around the world and over the centuries, few people have found fault with the color schemes of nature.

The question has to be asked however, with the colors of nature as a constant guide and inspiration, how is it that artists often struggle to produce work which harmonizes?

Could it be that the colors which surround us are often related or repeated, varying mainly in saturation, whereas the artist tends to over complicate matters and perhaps works with too many unrelated colors?

This talk and demonstration will offer an insight into a way of working with the colors of nature. You will leave with a different way of thinking and your work will almost certainly change.

Full day seminars on color mixing and glazing will follow on May 21 and 22 in Ft. Myers. Workshops on May 23-25 may be held if there is significant interest. Please visit: http://www.michaelwilcoxschoolofcolor.com/us-seminars/
