Administrator's Corner

Hello Spartans!

We've gotten off to a great start for fall sports!  DPS has started an online athletic registration process (FamilyID) which will ease the amount of paperwork for families and also allow a convenient online payment option.  This fall we had over 180 students register online, and we plan to be 100% online by the end of the school year.  Winter registration dates will be posted on the  TJ Athletics page as soon as the information is available.

Our games are in full swing, and TJ fan support has been great - keep up the spirit!  It is wonderful to see so many community members supporting our students.  Stay updated on our athletics schedule by visiting our  TJ calendar

And last (but certainly not least) Homecoming will be upon us soon!  Homecoming week starts Monday, September 19 th .  Our students will be dressing up for spirit week, so if you see any "Dannys" or "Sandys" walking around you'll know why!

Monday- Rep Yo' Team day
Tuesday- Grease day
Wednesday - International Day (wear the colors that represent your heritage)
Thursday- Geeks vs Jocks Day (wear whichever you really are on the inside: Geek it out or go overtly Jock)
Friday- TJ Day

Go Spartans!

Hola Spartans!

Mental Health and Social/Emotional Tips

~ Cyberbullying ~

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites.
Examples of cyberbullying include mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles .
How can you prevent cyberbullying?

Be Aware of What Your Kids Are Doing Online-
Talk with your kids about cyberbullying and other online issues regularly.
  • Know the sites your kids visit and their online activities. Ask where they're going, what they're doing, and who they're doing it with.
  • Tell your kids that as a responsible parent you may review their online communications if you think there is reason for concern. Installing parental control filtering software or monitoring programs are one option for monitoring your child's online behavior, but do not rely solely on these tools. Using social media is a privilege, not a right. Make them show you they can be responsible navigating the online community.
  • Have a sense of what they do online and in texts. Learn about the sites they like. Try out the devices they use.
  • Ask for their passwords, but tell them you'll only use them in case of emergency.
  • Ask to "friend" or "follow" your kids on social media sites or ask another trusted adult to do so.
  • Encourage your kids to tell you immediately if they, or someone they know, is being cyberbullied. Explain that you will not take away their computers or cell phones if they confide in you about a problem they are having.
Establish Rules about Technology Use
  • Establish rules about appropriate use of computers, cell phones, and other technology. For example, be clear about what sites they can visit and what they are permitted to do when they're online. Show them how to be safe online.
  • Help them be smart about what they post or say. Tell them not to share anything that could hurt or embarrass themselves or others. Once something is posted, it is out of their control whether someone else will forward it.
  • Encourage kids to think about who they want to see the information and pictures they post online. Should complete strangers see it? Real friends only? Friends of friends? Think about how people who aren't friends could use it.
  • Tell kids to keep their passwords safe and not share them with friends. Sharing passwords can compromise their control over their online identities and activities.

Ladies Of ValuE (LOVE)
Hello Parents,

If you have not already heard, we would like to introduce you to a new organization called Ladies Of Value (LOVE) that will be meeting weekly at Thomas Jefferson High. The mission is to illuminate the value that is hidden within our young ladies through authentic life skills, one on one mentoring and programs designed to prepare young women for the real world. The objective is to have well rounded women in education, finances, appearances and life experiences, in addition to having a genuine love for self. Self-value, the power of words, perception, and dating are just some of the topics we will be covering.

Our meetings are held in room 11 during the office hour on Wednesdays. Students that have a grade below a C in any class will be asked to see their teacher during the office hour instead of our meeting. Our purpose is to help your young ladies grow into women that will become contributors not only to the TJ community but to society as a whole. Your support and help is welcomed and needed. Please encourage your daughters to attend our meetings regularly. If you happen to be free on any of the listed dates, please feel free to drop in on a meeting. Also, word of mouth goes really far. If you know of any other DPS schools grades 6-12 that you feel may benefit from our program please be sure to mention LOVE as well as providing school names and if possible, contact information.

If you have any questions, please contact us. Thank you in advance for all of your support. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
