Recent Changes to INDOT’s Storm Water Management - Donovan Wilczynski

Abstract:  INDOT has been working to improve its commitment to minimizing potential impacts from construction projects in a number of ways.  As well as hiring additional staff, a number of new policy changes have been made including but not limited to; a tiered system for classifying sites based upon potential impacts, class and certification requirements for contractor’s storm water inspectors, added pay items for inspections and storm water quality control plans, a separate budget for erosion control items, a pilot program for a goal based view of soil and the plant growth layer.

Mitigation Success through Adaptive Management - Sarah Wright

Abstract: There is no such thing as a “perfect” mitigation site. Experience has shown us that site conditions, difficult soils, invasive species, animal predation, and other unanticipated factors can alter the expected outcome of a mitigation site. This presentation will discuss how, through adaptive management, mitigation areas can still meet established success criteria and acreage requirements. Close coordination with the regulatory agencies during this process is crucial in making sure that adaptive measures meet permit conditions. Several project examples of how adaptive management has been incorporated into challenging projects will be discussed.
