Dear colleague,
 With the UK vote to leave the European Union on 23 June, and the Scottish Government currently conducting a review of the enterprise and skills agencies, it has been a more eventful recess from parliament than usual.
In this period of change, EDAS aims to support our members and the economic development community to make the most of emerging challenges and opportunities. I am therefore pleased to announce that on 4 October Professor Anton Muscatelli, Principal & Vice Chancellor of Glasgow University, will be joining EDAS in Edinburgh to discuss the implications of the Brexit process for economic development in Scotland.
As Chair of the Scottish Government's Standing Council on Europe, Professor Muscatelli is ideally placed to appraise the current situation and answer the questions of economic development practitioners. He will be joined on an expert panel with Dr Fabian Zuleeg, Chief Executive & Chief Economist of the European Policy Centre in Brussels.
Meanwhile on 25 October in Glasgow EDAS will hold an event to exhibit emerging research on workplace innovation, the circular economy, and other practical applications of using innovation to introduce a step-change in the Scottish economy. Held with the Scottish Universities Insight Institute, findings and case studies from the 2016 SUII Innovation Programme will be unveiled. The event will be chaired by SUII Director and EDAS Vice-Chair (Policy), Charlie Woods.
This autumn EDAS will be running a new round of our popular CPD courses on Introduction to Economic Development, and Update on Policy and Practice in Economic Development. We are also piloting a new course on Monitoring and Evaluation: Achieving Better Value-for-Money and Innovating from Experience. Set to take place in Glasgow on 29 November, the course was designed based on feedback from our members to give practitioners essential knowledge and skills in these key areas.
As a date for the diary, EDAS will be holding its annual conference on conjunction with the Scottish Local Authorities Economic Development Group (SLAED) on 1st December 2016 in Aberdeen. We will open booking for this soon, and please direct any initial enquiries to Elaine Bone at [email protected].
Finally, I would like to inform our members that following a selection process, EDAS has appointed four new directors to our board. They are:

- Donald Jarvie, Head of Scotland's Futures Forum, The Scottish Parliament.
