From the Community Manager's Desk

Quincy Harper Sr.
Please come out and join us Saturday, September 10th at 3 P.M. in the Community Center for the VWOA Town Hall Meeting

We will have quite a few civic leaders including State Representative Rick Galindo III and Bexar Sheriff Susan Pamerleau.  We ask that you arrive on time so that we can be respectful of their time with us.

Thank you for your support and understanding. Please contact the staff, the Board or me if you have any questions.

In December 2014, the City of San Antonio directed the Department of Planning and Community Development to start work on an annexation plan that would affect a large portion of our residents. On September 8th, 2016, the City Council will hold a hearing to consider the proposed three year plan for the first of the annexations.  As of the date of this article, according to the website (http://www.sanantonio.gov/Planning/PlanningUrbanDesign/Annexation/AnnexationProgram.aspx), the HWY 90/LOOP 1604 AND HWY 151 AREAS are still under analysis, but your feedback is important to let the city know what you think.

On August 29th, 2016, a community discussion was held with lawmakers, law enforcement, and policymakers to discuss the annexation plans in an open forum.  During this meeting they announced a new website for concerned citizens to take an active part in the debate in a Five Point format.  The website address is located at https://placechanging.com and allows you to register, read the opinions of others in our community and across the region, and post your own thoughts and ideas regarding the annexation process.  The Five Points to consider are listed in the following categories:
  1. Revenue
  2. Services
  3. Representation
  4. Growth
  5. Future
Please take a moment and register online.  Browse through the comments of concerned citizens that have already been posted and add your own thoughts on the matter.  While we do not have direct control in the direction of the City of San Antonio because we do not reside within city limits, the concerns and ideas posted on this forum will provide lawmakers with the feedback needed to properly address the issues.

If you are not comfortable posting your thoughts online, please contact our local State Representative, Rick Galindo III, by telephone at (210) 922-1328 or the Bexar County Commissioner of Precinct 1, Sergio "Chico" Rodriguez, by telephone at (210) 335-2611.  Both are eagerly awaiting your input.

Today is your chance to make a difference.
Today is your moment to express your sentiments.  So let your voice be heard!

When was the last time you had an exciting idea that kept you awake most of the night? Are you pursuing that idea today?

We want to thank the members of the "Sports Park Committee" for their dedication and persistent work to restore and beautify the Villages of Westcreek Sports Park. Members of the committee include: Varnell Johnson (Chair), Heather Mallia (Vice-Chair), Gene Hopkins (Secretary), Billy Teeter, Bill Fenstermacher, Joyce Oliver, and Guy Oliver.

The Sports Park Committee has addressed significant issues over the years that directly impact the Westcreek Sports Park, which is used by many homeowners for leisure activities, exercise, sports, recreation, and more. The Committee was instrumental in identifying many projects that improved safety, the recreation facilities, and overall appearance of the Sports Park. The list is lengthy, but some of the recent projects include purchasing new exercise equipment, playground equipment, park benches, water fountains, trash cans and BBQ grills, repaving the basketball court, repairing the tennis court, adding tiny tot basketball court, installing LED lights, and filling potholes in the parking lot.

The committee also diligently pursued opportunities to improve the Westcreek youth soccer program by implementing standardized rules, hiring soccer officials, and updating uniforms, grounds and equipment, which supported the growth of the program to over 300 participants. Additionally, the committee sought to expand the sports program, which now includes youth basketball and adult softball.

Some of the future projects identified include improved lighting throughout the park, additional restrooms and storage, paved walkways to the common areas, continued assistance with the sports programs expansion, and repaving the entire parking area.

By teaming with the HOA staff members, Board of Directors and other Committee's, the Sports Park Committee volunteers have been able to positively impact the Westcreek community as a whole. However, more volunteers are needed to continue with future big initiatives. So, get involved if you're looking for a way to contribute to our community and are interested in helping to:
  1. Restore and beautify the Westcreek Sports Park
  2. Identify opportunities to improve the facilities
  3. Support the expansion of the sports and leisure programs for all age groups
We invite you to attend a Sports Park Committee meeting, which are held every second Wednesday of the month at 6:00 P.M. in the Community Center Conference Room.  You too, can "Make A Difference!"
