Community Nights
are coming to FUSW!
Friday, September 16th
Twice a month on
Friday evenings
, our building will be hopping.
We are hearing that you want opportunities to deepen relationships at FUSW and feel the vibrancy of our community so we are creating space for us to gather every other Friday night for informal fellowship, small group ministry and youth groups. Congregants of all ages are welcome and we hope that having multiple activities occurring simultaneously will make it easier for families to participate (e.g., while youth are in youth group, parents can attend a ministry group, team meeting or enjoy informal fellowship time). The first Community night is Friday, September 16. The Junior and Senior High Youth Groups meet at 7:00pm The Men's Group and Social Justice Team meet at 7:30pm. Community dinner is open to everyone and begins at 6:30pm. Bring your dinner and share in fellowship. We look forward to deepening the ties of community with you!

Anti-Bias & Justice Workshop
You are invited a special workshop on Saturday, September 24th at FUSW. Rev. Dr. Hope Johnson and Betty Jeanne Rueters-Ward will lead us in a day of learning and exploring anti-bias and justice work as it relates to our RE ministries. Our focus this year is Love and Justice. We are framing our work with Cornel West's quote, "Justice is what love looks like in public." The workshop is intended to help us create a common starting point, and support volunteers and families in important conversations you may be having about bias and oppression. We will develop a shared language and lens, explore identity and privilege, talk about what it means to participate in the work of justice making with children and youth, and affirm ways to support each other in our own learning. We invite RE volunteers, youth (especially youth!), parents and all FUSW congregants for this day of shared learning. Click here for a flyer. Click here to register. We hope you will join us! Contact Tracy Breneman for more information.

A Failing Democracy?
Our denomination has taken up the question of how our democracy is working and how it's not working as intended.
Our congregation, in partnership with the congregation in White Plains, will start a Democracy Team to participate in this denominational investigation. We'll begin by reading Parker Palmer's book Healing the Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics of the Human Heart. Please join us for our first conversation on Sunday, September 25th
after worship. (More details to come.)

COFFEE HOUR IS MORE ABOUT CONNECTIONS
Of course we like to share a cup of coffee or tea, and a tasty treat, but here at First Unitarian Society of Westchester, after the service is our time to connect with each other.
We listen, we talk, we think, and we are in community together.
We are growing as human beings and we need one another.
We are accepting of each other.
We are in relationship.
We lead busy lives, and the urge to keep moving is strong.
We ask for you to relax among friends, and make some new connections.
Life is a journey, and FUSW is a guidepost for us.
JOIN TOGETHER FOR HOSPITALITY AFTER WORSHIP
In order to share coffee and conversation, we need volunteers to host our coffee hour every SUNDAY. Sarita Roy will be asking each of us
lovingly to take a turn.
There will be a few changes to our usual routine this year, but our sanctuary will be transformed into a cozy coffee and tea place that beats Starbucks for ambiance, and serves only FAIR TRADE coffee.
So, after service, please stay while we arrange chairs in circles, and set up some tables.
Your host will serve you coffee or tea FROM the kitchen so it will be easier for you.
Treats will be arranged on a table right in front of our beautiful scenic window.
The idea is to get to know each other, reflect on our sermon, and enjoy our community time on Sunday.

FUNDRAISER IDEA
Do you have an extra room in your home?
If so,
YOU
can help
FUSW
raise money.
We would like to offer
homestays
of one or two days to UU members when they visit NYC & Westchester.
We will give them friendly tours, and advice about the best places to eat, and ideas on sightseeing.
Sue McAnanama will coordinate and all the money will go to augment our budget.
Please let Sue know if you would like to be part of this exciting outreach to provide loving hospitality to UU's from around the country....and beyond.

Lend a Ride
Our Ministerial Intern, Emily DeTar,
is looking for people who would be interested
in giving her rides to the church from the Hastings train
station
on different Sundays and other weekly events.
It would make such a big difference
if you would be so kind
to lend a ride.
