Bookseller Recommendations!
William  Recommends:

  The Nix by Nathan Hill
Audacious and experimental, this epic novel tells the seemingly simple story of a young man searching for the truth about his mother, who abandoned him as a child and is arrested twenty-odd years later after throwing rocks at a right-wing politician. This is not just the story of a grown man seeking the truth about a woman half-forgotten, it's the story of a country evolving into something pretty terrifying -- a world where lies and deceit can bring you riches and the truth will only break your heart. This is an assured first novel filled with surprises and miraculous feats of literary stuntwork (a ten-page sentence! Holy cow!).

Betty Recommends:

A Gentleman In Moscow by Amor Towles
Tonight (sadly) I finished A Gentleman in Moscow.  As with Rules of Civility, Towles has written a very satisfying book.  The combination of several beautiful love stories -- the Count's for his homeland, the father's for his daughter, and the willowy actress -- all serve to soften the tale of the brutal transitions of early to mid 20th century Russia.  Like an exquisite, and often hilarious, jigsaw puzzle, the pieces of this book fit together perfectly.  We come away with a sweeping history lesson and characters we cannot let go of.  What a treat!

Lorna Recommends:

This romantic-comedy debut novel has family, friendship, baking, and a dog named Salty.  After I finished it I found myself wanting to drive to Vermont to find The Sugar Maple Inn. This is a sweet read for all New England romantics.

Phyllis Recommends:

Heroes Of The Frontier by Dave Eggers
Plagued by mistakes and regret, Josie takes her two young children, flees to Alaska, rents a beat up camper, and begins the most important adventure of her life. Eggers gives us a colorful ride through the breathtaking Alaskan landscape complete with gun toting parents, hippies, fire fighters, and more while simultaneously conveying Josie's mental anguish as she examines her past. Can she finally find peace and redemption?

With the weather turning cooler, our gift department has received a new shipment of fun and fancy socks from Foot Traffic and Happy Socks, including socks with pictures of fishing lures, doughnuts, cats, dogs, and even hot air balloons.  We've also started carrying a line of socks with Anne Taintor designs on them.  Some examples are pictured to the right, but my personal favorite is the cat lady socks!  Prepare for the cool weather (you know it's coming!) with warm and whimsical socks from Wellesley Books.

Dog of the Week
Sebastian

Sebastian is a six month old Coton De Tulear who was named after the character Sebastian in Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited.  I wonder if he owns a teddy bear?  He enjoys being a city dog as he strolls through Boston, and he enjoys shopping with his sister Genevieve.  Welcome to Wellesley Books, Sebastian!

"A book, too, can be a star, a living fire to lighten the darkness,
leading out into the expanding universe."
