Marking the Path Forward
By Jeff Yorzyk,
Director of Sustainability, Green Chef, Golden, Colorado
September brings the end of summer and back-to-school activities. This year, I had the bittersweet experience of sending a young man off to college - which, among other things, caused me to reflect on how different his career opportunities would be. I graduated the year of the first UN Summit on Sustainable Development, and was unaware that such an inspiring career path was in front of me. When I found my way into sustainability almost a decade later, I resolved to do what I could to mark the path behind me, and to spread the word on the value of sustainable practices. It is this kind of resolve that brought members of the ISSP Board together, and drives us to grow the profession through professional development and credentials like ISSP-SA and ISSP-CSP Sustainability Professional Certification. I encourage each of us to take a step back this fall and ask ourselves what we can do to mark the path behind us, and to "sharpen our own saw" through professional development as we strive forward in our own careers. ISSP is here to support you!
