Letter
from Dan
Dan Waits - Executive Director

Dear RTCA Friends and Family,

As Christians, we look to Jesus as the perfect example of how to live our lives.  Certainly there were times that Jesus Himself would get away to rest, to pray.  But the majority of His time on earth, we saw an example of humility, of self-sacrifice, of having an outward focus... not an inward focus.  In fact, the strength of humbleness and humility is what the Gospel is all about.  Jesus, our Savior, humbled Himself in a way unlike any other.

For the last 3 years, Chaplain Doug Eldridge has served the backside community at Turfway Park, and this year added Belterra to his mission field.
Picnic @ Del Mar:
"Retired" Chaplain Izzy Vega has spent the summer volunteering alongside Chaplain Billy Wheeler at Los Alamitos and Del Mar race tracks. During that time, the chaplaincy at Del Mar hosted a picnic with nearly 800 people in attendance!
  • ALL children in attendance (100+) received school supplies
  • Ministry & Crafts for kids
  • Raffle including 2 bikes, a microwave and other household items, and 15 backpacks
  • Guest pastor drove 2 hours on his birthday to share his testimony and minister to the crowd

Chaplains Izzy & Billy want to give special thanks to Denise Mitchell, trainer Joe Herrick, and all of the volunteers who helped make this a fun, successful event at Del Mar!

Chaplain Resources: Resources
If you are in need of ministry resources (Bibles, devotional materials, etc.), we are working on a website portal to simplify the request process. In the meantime, please contact the National Office so we can send what you need.

Out and About:
Dan Goes Coast-to-Coast
Dan at NY-RTCA Brunch - Saratoga

For the Executive Director of a nationwide ministry, "settling in" means anything but "staying put". Over the last month, Dan has travelled to Chaplaincies in New York, Illinois, California, and New Mexico to meet with chaplains and track management in an effort to give support and encouragement to the RTCA family while helping to build bridges within the racing community. In one special case, the goal was to help start the process for establishing a new ministry!
