Regional Director's Message
by Jean Duggar

What a pleasure it was to be at our show this past weekend!   So many old friends that I had missed, and the opportunity to make new ones reminds me why we all do this.   The judges were dressed to match the fantasy theme and Marilee in a long white curly wig, the momentum was catching.

Marilee Griswold, Jan Rogers, Wendy Heidt, and Jennifer Redding were some of the judges that went Through the Looking Glass!

At our brief but very productive regional meeting, Deb updated us on her great progress for the regional.  Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help in any way--I know it will be fantastic because of all of you.

Sunday I had an opportunity to walk around and talk to many of you--I always want to hear your concerns!
Our first 50/50 raffle was a huge success with the Region making  almost $400, and the winner, Kelly Koonce, donating her portion to the rescue organization that she works with.    I hope to see you at our upcoming shows.  Please think positive thoughts for my girl---at least I have a preliminary diagnosis (and reason for her "unhappy behavior").   All things happen for a reason....   Thank you for supporting the Southern Region and CFA !

Regional Meeting Notes

September 3, 2016
Notes captured by Joanne Hardeman

A Southern Regional meeting was held this past weekend at the Ocicats Int'l/Maine Street cat show in Oakwood, GA to announce a core group of SR members who will be meeting each week to address up-coming activities and issues for the region.  This core group is made up primarily of Jean Duggar (Regional Director), JoAnn Miksa-Blackwell, Teresa Keiger, Deborah Curtis, and Karen Lane.  Deborah is currently researching locations for the 2017 awards banquet/show in the northern part of the region while Karen is researching locations for the 2018 awards banquet/show in the southern part of the region.

Des Spencer will be a primary contact representing the western part of the region and has agreed to lead the trophy committee. While this is the core group, volunteers are coming forward and we encourage others to add their many talents to this worthy cause.

In addition to the two regional banquets and shows requiring planning, i t was also noted that the Southern Region will be hosting the 2018 Annual.  This site has been identified for the  Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia in Atlanta.  CFA Central will handle many of the arrangements, but SR will be responsible for hosting the annual.  We want to make it the best ever!

Additional concerns being addressed are the regional awards and fund raising activities.  Deborah has already started searching for awards resources.  One fund-raising activity (50/50 raffle) started at the show this weekend and raised $778 (half going to the winner who is donating her monies for litter at her local humane society, and the other half going to our region).  It's a good start, but much more is needed to generate funds to support our regions and our region clubs/shows.

Again, all constructive feedback and ideas are welcome.  Feel free to contact any of the core members with your ideas and concerns.

We heard that a few cats left the show as new grands, including a tortie smoke Persian owned by CA Johnston Folds.
