A Great Start with Your Students!
It has been great having your students back at school! They bring many smiles and positive energy to our community. This week at our welcome back pep fest I talked with students about our theme for the year, "We are a Community that thrives on: Trust ✦ Presence ✦ Growth." In that message I shared that they will be trusted and expected to be present in their classes. The word and idea of presence is new for many of our learners and was explained as engagement in learning and being where they need to be for their learning. We ended with the promise of their growth and our growth as a community. I encourage you to continue these conversations around community, trust, presence and growth with your children. We are sharing many of the the personalized learning opportunities students are engaging in each day via our Twitter (@prmtrailblazers), Facebook page (Pioneer Ridge Middle School) and Instagram (@prmstrailblazers) accounts. Find these social media links
below . This week we have shared Monday's Star and Tribune article that highlighted PRMS teachers, a pep fest to welcome 6th grade students to our community and many things students have been doing in their classes.
Thank you for your patience and help working through bus issues, student pick drop-off and pick-up this week. All of your communication and feedback has been helpful in making sure we get everything running safely for students. We understand that often you are in a hurry to pick up your student(s), but for their safety will you ask them to wait to approach your car until you pull into the loop. If you want to park and come up to meet them on the sidewalk you may. For their safety we will not allow students to walk into the parking lot when student pick-up is happening. Please see our
drop-off/pick-up procedures below.
Sincerely,
Megan Blazek
Principal

Student Picture Make-up Day is Wednesday, September 7th
Next Wednesday morning, any students who did not have their picture taken at Open House are eligible to have a make-up picture taken. All students must have a picture taken for the school yearbook and for their ID.
See the picture package options on the
Lifetouch Flyer for Makeup Pictures. You may then order your pictures directly on the Lifetouch
website
and bring the confirmation page for the photographer. Order forms are also available in the office.
If you are unhappy with the pictures taken at Open House or for Make-up Picture Day, you may have them retaken on Tuesday, October 4th. Simply send the entire order with your student that morning to give to the photographer.
A note about Student IDs:
A student ID with picture is required by most athletic leagues for tournaments, sometimes on cruises and certain travel outside the US, for discounted entry fees and many other purposes. When your student receives their picture package with the ID, please keep the ID in a safe place. Should you lose the ID, you may print your child's Campus Portal page with their picture and black-out the Student ID number. The office will not generate student verification letters for outside activities.

Student Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures
Thanks to all of you for your cooperation in following our student drop off and pick up procedures. See
diagram. It is for your child's safety that we insist all pick-up and drop-off traffic must pull completely around into the circle
before the car door is opened.
Our staff works to move traffic as efficiently as possible. Cars pulling out of the line before reaching the end of the circle, not only endanger other students, but also send the wrong message to students and other parents who are complying with this safety measure. If you have an emergency that requires you to leave more quickly than the five to ten minutes it takes to move all cars through our circle, we ask that you park and walk to the circle or office to pick up your child.
Please do not allow your child to walk down the line and enter your car before reaching the end of the circle. We also ask that you do not stop wherever your child is standing, but pull as far forward in the circle as possible before stopping.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our students safe!

Set up Your Campus Portal Account Today
To allow us to partner with you and to communicate effectively and efficiently, it is critical that your phone and email address is accurate in Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Be sure to set up your Contact Preferences and the new Notifications feature, as well. There should be at least one email address on file per household, as the majority of our teacher, school and district communications are sent using this method.
It is also recommended that each parent/guardian have a Parent Portal account, allowing you access to your child's schedule and other information, to track your child's progress and to update your contact information. To set up an account, please contact Neva Crocker at [email protected] or call her at 952-556-7801.

Parent/Student Communication
General school and student information is available through our monthly newsletters, website and Campus Portal. You can also follow us through
social media. We encourage you to check the district and PRMS websites at
prm.district112.org and
Campus Portal weekly for building and teacher updates, and to monitor your child's academic progress.
If you need to reach a staff member, you are encouraged to send an email or call the main office to be directed to the teacher's voicemail. Please remember that teachers are busy during the school day and may not be free until the end of the day or the start of the next day. It is our goal to respond to all parent inquiries within one school day if possible. Our staff list can be found
here.

Help Support Innovation at PRMS
Thank you to all of our families who donated during our open house to the one stop shop. We raised $345 towards our focus on flexible, durable furniture and learning tools for our students. The creation and development of these spaces and opportunities for our students is made possible through the support and engagement of our incredible Pioneer Ridge Community. Please look for more information to support our school through our upcoming fundraisers: Innovate the Ridge (fall), Showcase Night (winter/spring), and Run the Ridge (spring). If you are interested in serving on a committee to help plan one of these events, please contact Austin Tollerson (
[email protected]). We are a community that thrives on Trust, Presence, and Growth.

Parent Teacher Organization
At Pioneer Ridge, we want all students to have a great middle school experience while they go through some of the biggest changes in their lives--physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually. In order to help students through these transitions, we all must work together. Our parent teacher organization (PTO) is planning for another successful year and will have many opportunities for you to become involved regardless of your schedule.
If you are interested in being involved in PTO, please join our meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 2:45pm in the Office Conference Room. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 6th. If you have specific questions, feel free to call or email Ryan Meulemans, Administrative Dean, at 952-556-7812 or [email protected].

Family Breaks
These are times when students and families are able to relax and enjoy one another because there will be no assignments due until at least the Wednesday after a school break. Labor Day weekend is our first break, and our next Family Break will be at the end of September for the Ryder Cup. Watch the
PRMS Calendar for upcoming breaks. Our hope is that by clearly setting aside these times, families can make plans accordingly and students can enjoy time away from the stressors of schoolwork.
