Pedestrian Crosswalk Safety Rules
Illinois State Statutes require drivers to come to a complete stop (and yield) when pedestrians are in a marked crosswalk.
Stopping is
not required if there is not a pedestrian in the crosswalk, but drivers should always be prepared to yield the right-of-way and should not drive unnecessarily close to pedestrians.
Drivers also must yield to workers in highway construction or maintenance areas as well as to persons with disabilities, including those with physical, hearing and visual disabilities.
